Whitney Purvis, who appeared on MTV’s 16 and Pregnant in 2009, was arrested in Floyd County, Georgia, on July 7, 2025, on a felony warrant that included an involuntary-manslaughter charge. An arrest affidavit alleged that a substance she distributed to John Mark Harris contributed to his death from a toxic overdose. That is an allegation, not a finding of guilt.
Why was Whitney Purvis arrested?
According to the arrest-affidavit language quoted by ABC News on July 8, 2025, Purvis allegedly “intentionally distributed a substance presented as ‘Tranq,’ commonly known as Xylazine and Fentanyl” to Harris, and the substance “directly contributed in the victim’s death due to a toxic overdose.” Authorities identified Harris as the person who died. These statements describe what the affidavit alleges; they do not establish that Purvis committed the alleged conduct.

The Associated Press reported July 7, 2025, that officers went to a home in Rome, Georgia, on February 16, 2025, and found Harris dead from an overdose. The county court calendar also gives February 16, 2025, as the date associated with the aggravated involuntary-manslaughter count.
What charges and court dates are listed?
A Floyd County Superior Court criminal calendar dated March 10, 2026, lists the case as State of Georgia v. PURVIS, WHITNEY BLAKE, case number 26CR00019. It records a seven-count felony indictment filed January 9, 2026:
#1 Best Overall
- Four counts involving use of a communication facility.
- One count of sale of a Schedule I or II controlled substance.
- One count of possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance.
- One count of aggravated involuntary manslaughter.
The calendar lists an April 1, 2026 jury-trial calendar call and a $15,000 bond dated January 9, 2026. A calendar entry establishes that an event was scheduled, not that it took place. The available records do not establish whether the calendar call or a trial occurred, what the case’s disposition was, or Purvis’s custody status as of October 7, 2026.

Purvis appeared with her then-boyfriend Weston Lewis Gosa in an episode of MTV’s 2009 documentary series 16 and Pregnant, which followed them as expectant teenage parents, according to ABC News. That television appearance explains why the arrest drew attention; it is separate from the criminal allegations concerning Harris.
