Sean Garinger’s reported cause of death was blunt force injury to the head, according to news reports describing medical examiner documents. His mother, Mary Hobbs, said he died in an ATV accident after rain-softened ground gave way and the vehicle flipped and pinned him. Hobbs called it a freak accident; that was her description, not a formal finding by the medical examiner.
What was Sean Garinger’s cause of death?
TMZ and E! News reported that medical examiner documents listed blunt force injury to the head as the cause of death and described multiple skull fractures. The medical examiner’s primary record is not available here for direct review, so the finding is attributed to those reports.

What happened in the ATV accident?
Hobbs told Entertainment Tonight that Garinger was moving the ATV from one parking spot to another so she could park her car. She said rain and mud had weakened the ground, which gave way; the ATV flipped and pinned him. This sequence comes from his mother’s account as reported by news outlets, not from an independently confirmed accident reconstruction.
Why was it described as a “freak accident”?
TMZ reported Hobbs’s characterization that Garinger was not doing anything reckless and that the incident was “a freak thing, and an absolute tragedy.” The phrase reflects his mother’s account of the circumstances, rather than the medical examiner’s terminology or a formal investigative conclusion.
