Who is the strongest character in WIND BREAKER? In ciatr’s ranking, it is Chika Takiishi, followed by Hajime Umemiya. That order is an editorial judgment, not an official franchise power scale: the ranking weighs fight portrayals and assessments, individual combat ability, and leadership alongside allies. Here are the 15 placements in that published order, with the evidence and uncertainty kept in view.
How to read this ranking
WIND BREAKER is Satoru Nii’s Japanese manga about students at Furin High School, where Haruka Sakura arrives determined to reach the top and discovers that Furin has become Bofurin, a group that protects the town. The official Weekly Shonen Magazine series page and anime character profiles establish roles and descriptions, but do not publish a complete strength ranking.
The sequence below follows ciatr’s ranking, updated July 21, 2026. Its stated criteria include depicted battles and others’ assessments, individual combat strength, and leadership when fighting with allies. That makes it broader than a strict one-on-one list. The numbers are positions in an editorial ranking, not scores or measured performance. Close placements should be treated as debatable, and future manga developments may change the picture.

The 15 strongest characters in Wind Breaker
-
Chika Takiishi
ciatr places Takiishi first. The official publisher character list includes him, but the official materials cited here do not compare him with the rest of the cast or declare him the strongest. His top spot is therefore the ranking’s assessment, not canon.
-
Hajime Umemiya
Umemiya takes second. The anime profile identifies him as Bofurin’s representative and describes him as physically strong and tenacious; the publisher likewise presents him as Furin’s representative and someone able to overwhelm threats to the town. Those descriptions support his high placement, but do not establish a definitive result against every fighter above him.
-
Yamato Endo
Endo is third in ciatr’s order. The official material cited for this list does not provide a comparative placement or enough detail to turn that position into a measured gap between him and the fighters around him.

Kanji Banjo
Banjo occupies fifth place in the selected ranking. The available official descriptions do not supply a head-to-head ranking that independently confirms this position.
-
Haruka Sakura
Sakura is sixth. He comes to Furin aiming for its top position; the anime describes him as someone who admires strong people and intends to fight his way upward. His ambition explains his place in the story, but is not itself proof that he has already surpassed the higher-ranked characters.

Choji Tomiyama
Tomiyama is seventh. The publisher identifies him as Shishitoren’s leader, describes him as overwhelmingly strong, and compares his fighting ability with Umemiya’s. That official description makes his position near the top understandable, though it does not specify an objective rank.
-
Jo Togame
Togame is eighth. In the official episode 7 synopsis, his speed is described as extraordinary, and he suppresses Shishitoren members who believe in absolute power. The synopsis highlights speed and his role in that conflict; it is not a complete comparison of his abilities with every person on this list.

Tasuku Tsubakino
Tsubakino ranks tenth and, according to official character materials, is one of Bofurin’s Four Kings. That role signals standing within the group, while the ranking’s exact tenth-place position remains an editorial judgment.
-
Shuhei Suzuri
Suzuri is placed eleventh. The list’s order should not be read as a precise measure of how much weaker he is than the characters above him; no numeric performance measure is supplied.
-
Seiryu and Uryu Sakaki
The Sakaki brothers share twelfth place in ciatr’s list. They are presented jointly, so there is no separate tie-break or individual order to add.

Shuji Hashirao
Hashirao is thirteenth in the published sequence. The placement reflects ciatr’s ranking rather than an official franchise designation.
-
Kanji Nakamura
Nakamura takes fourteenth place. As with the other lower placements, the source provides an editorial ordering, not an objective score or definitive matchup result.
-
Hayato Suo
Suo is fifteenth. The anime profile identifies him as one of Sakura’s fellow first-years. ciatr notes his distinctive fighting style while also acknowledging that his full strength remains unclear, making this a particularly uncertain placement rather than a ceiling on what the character may show later.
What the order does—and does not—tell you
For readers comparing fighters, it helps to separate evidence from inference. A useful assessment asks what a character has actually shown in a fight, the quality of the opponent, stamina or durability when depicted, and how versatile the character is. Unrevealed abilities and incomplete matchups leave room for disagreement. Those are useful comparison questions, not additional criteria that ciatr explicitly claims to score.
The leadership element matters too: a character’s value when fighting with allies can influence a ranking that is not limited to isolated duels. Readers who want a pure one-on-one ordering may therefore prefer different placements, especially among characters whose individual matchups are not settled by the material cited here.
For the story behind these characters, see the official manga series page.
