Shinrabanshoman is the strongest character in Fire Force. The form combines Shinra Kusakabe’s Adolla Burst with the strength of the other Pillars and reaches reality-altering power during the Great Cataclysm. The Evangelist and Haumea’s final despair-empowered state follow, while Arthur Boyle, Dragon, and Benimaru Shinmon form the highest tier of conventional combatants.

Spoiler warning: This ranking covers the complete 34-volume Fire Force manga, including the Great Cataclysm, the Arthur-versus-Dragon battle, Shinrabanshoman, and the ending. It is not an anime-only ranking.

Want the source material behind these feats? The Fire Force manga box set editions cover volumes 1–6 and 7–11 respectively. They are useful starting points, but they do not contain the complete 34-volume story.

How the ranking works

Each character is ranked using their strongest demonstrated or explicitly established state rather than their ordinary starting form. The main factors are direct combat results, destructive scale, speed and time manipulation, durability, Adolla-related amplification, and consistency against other high-level opponents.

This distinction matters in Fire Force. A character such as Nataku Son can produce enormous long-range destruction without possessing the control or durability of a top-tier fighter. Shō Kusakabe has one of the setting’s most extreme abilities, but his physical limitations and dependence on Adolla synchronization affect his overall placement. Meanwhile, Benimaru is officially described as the strongest firefighter, while Arthur’s late-manga peak reaches a more extraordinary offensive scale.

The manga is complete at 34 volumes. Official Kodansha descriptions of the final volumes frame the climax as the confrontation between Haumea’s despair and Shinra’s hope, culminating in Shinrabanshoman. The list below therefore weighs final-arc transformations and feats more heavily than ordinary titles or early-series reputation.

The 15 strongest Fire Force characters

  1. Shinrabanshoman

Why he ranks first: Shinrabanshoman is Fire Force’s ultimate state and is decisively above ordinary pyrokinetic forms. At the climax of the Great Cataclysm, Shinra’s Adolla Burst combines with the strength of the other Pillars, giving him godlike, reality-altering power.

This is not simply Shinra moving faster or producing hotter flames. The form operates on a scale that changes the rules of the conflict itself. Kodansha’s official description of Volume 34 presents Shinra as unleashing superhuman power against Haumea’s despair during the final showdown. His victory over that final threat makes him the clearest number-one choice.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Shinrabanshoman’s placement also illustrates the ranking’s methodology: a peak state can supersede a character’s normal limitations. Shinra is not ranked here by his early Company 8 performance, but by the completed manga’s final transformation.

  2. The Evangelist

Why she ranks second: The Evangelist is the central cosmic force behind Adolla and the Great Cataclysm. Her influence extends beyond ordinary combat, and her despair-driven objective threatens the existence of the world itself.

She is not a conventional duelist whose strength can be measured only by trading attacks with another firefighter. Her position is closer to a metaphysical source of power and an overarching extinction-level threat. That narrative and cosmological scale places her above the rest of the cast, except for Shinrabanshoman, who ultimately overcomes the despair associated with her final conflict.

The Evangelist is ranked separately from Haumea because Haumea functions as an empowered Pillar and vessel for that larger force. Treating them as interchangeable would obscure the difference between the source of the catastrophe and the person channeling its power.

  3. Haumea in her final despair-empowered state

Why she ranks third: Haumea is one of the Eight Pillars and possesses a uniquely dangerous combination of electromagnetic and mental-control abilities. Her official character profile describes her as controlling others through electrical signals generated from thermal energy.

That power is already dangerous before her final amplification. In her despair-empowered state, Haumea becomes the immediate embodiment of the Evangelist’s endgame, elevating her control abilities to the highest level of the series. She can threaten opponents without relying on a straightforward physical contest, which places her above conventional fighters who may have greater durability or more obvious destructive techniques.

Haumea remains below Shinrabanshoman because Shinra ultimately defeats the despair she represents. Her placement is therefore based on both her final power and the role she plays in the final conflict, not merely on her earlier appearances.

For the ending: Fire Force Volume 34 is Kodansha’s final manga volume and is the relevant source for readers who want the Shinrabanshoman-versus-Haumea conclusion. It is available in print and digital editions; it is not a replacement for reading the full series.

  4. Arthur Boyle

Why he ranks fourth: Arthur has one of the highest offensive ceilings in the entire manga. His plasma-based Excalibur is formed from a sword hilt, and his extreme battle instinct becomes even more powerful when he fully inhabits his delusional identity as a knight.

Arthur’s strength is unusual because his mindset is part of his power system. The more completely he accepts the fantasy of being a legendary knight, the more effectively he can wield Excalibur. That psychological dependence can make him inconsistent in ordinary circumstances, but at his peak it produces spectacular results.

His defining feat is the final battle with Dragon. Kodansha’s Volume 31 synopsis confirms that the confrontation escalates beyond Earth and that Arthur gains new power from Vulcan’s treasure. Arthur eventually defeats Dragon, giving him the strongest direct result among the two. He ranks below the three transcendent figures above him because Excalibur and his knightly amplification remain a specialized peak rather than the reality-altering power of the final forms.

The Arthur-Dragon material is collected around Fire Force Volume 31, whose official synopsis centers on their escalating battle and Arthur’s newly enhanced power.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  5. Dragon

Why he ranks fifth: Dragon is the most physically overwhelming conventional enemy in the final arcs. He combines immense strength and durability with the ability to withstand attacks from elite Fire Force fighters, making him extraordinarily difficult to defeat through normal force.

His battle with Arthur becomes an outer-space confrontation, a scale that distinguishes Dragon from nearly every other physical fighter in the series. He repeatedly survives attacks that would end most battles immediately, and his resistance forces Arthur to reach a new level of power.

Dragon ranks below Arthur because Arthur ultimately defeats him, but that result should not be mistaken for a large gap in overall threat. In raw toughness and physical dominance, Dragon may be the more frightening opponent. He is fifth because the ranking gives direct victory and peak offensive accomplishment considerable weight.

  6. Benimaru Shinmon

Why he ranks sixth: Benimaru is the strongest ordinary firefighter and the best all-around combatant outside the god-tier final forms. His official profile explicitly identifies him as the strongest firefighter and notes that he is a rare Second- and Third-Generation hybrid.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That hybrid ability lets Benimaru both manipulate existing flames and generate his own. Combined with extraordinary martial skill, battlefield awareness, and destructive techniques, it gives him an unusually complete toolkit. He does not need a narrow matchup or a fragile psychological condition to be dangerous.

Benimaru’s position is the most debatable in the top six. If a ranking prioritizes consistent close-quarters fighting and practical combat ability, he can reasonably be placed above Arthur. This list puts Arthur fourth because the late-manga Excalibur feats reach a greater peak of destructive scale. Benimaru remains the safer choice for the strongest reliable firefighter.

  7. Shō Kusakabe

Why he ranks seventh: Shō’s Severed Universe is one of the most extreme abilities in Fire Force. Through an Adolla Link, he manipulates the thermal expansion of the universe, effectively stopping the movement of everything except himself.

Against most opponents, that ability is close to an automatic win condition. A fighter who cannot move cannot properly defend, counterattack, or escape. Shō’s power therefore has a higher theoretical ceiling than his position might suggest.

He ranks below Arthur, Dragon, and Benimaru because a powerful ability is not the same as a complete combat package. Shō’s physical limitations, reliance on Adolla synchronization, and vulnerability to Shinra’s counter-resonance keep him from consistently dominating the highest tier. He is a terrifying specialist rather than a universally superior fighter.

  8. Yūichirō Kurono

Why he ranks eighth: Kurono is one of the most dangerous non-Pillar fighters. His black-smoke manipulation is difficult to counter, and his efficient, controlled combat style allows him to pressure opponents without wasting movement or output.

Kurono’s placement is less certain than those of the characters above him because the manga gives him fewer extended endgame battles than Benimaru, Arthur, or Dragon. That creates a smaller evidence base for comparing his absolute ceiling with the final-arc monsters.

Even with that caveat, his performances against high-level opponents and his reputation within Haijima support a position above most captains and ordinary Third Generations. He is not ranked eighth because of spectacle; he is ranked there because his efficiency and specialized smoke techniques make him exceptionally dangerous in an actual fight.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  9. Leonard Burns

Why he ranks ninth: Burns combines Third-Generation ignition with extreme physical enhancement. His ability burns flame inside his body like a furnace, converting the resulting heat energy into explosive increases in physical ability.

That gives Burns a rare balance of offense, speed, and close-range durability. He is not merely a captain with a powerful ignition ability; his entire body becomes the engine of his fighting style. His later conflict with Shinra and his connection to a powerful doppelgänger further raise his importance and threat level.

Burns does not have the final-arc scale of Arthur, Dragon, or Benimaru, and he lacks the reality- or time-manipulation advantages of the characters above him. Still, his physical enhancement makes him substantially more dangerous than most conventional captains.

  10. Charon

Why he ranks tenth: Charon is one of Fire Force’s premier tanks and counterattack specialists. He can absorb or redirect tremendous force, meaning that an opponent’s strongest attack may become a liability rather than a solution.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

His durability and ability to punish direct aggression make him especially effective against powerful pyrokinetics who rely on overwhelming output. He also serves as Haumea’s Guardian and remains effective when facing elite Fire Force fighters.

Charon’s limitation is matchup dependence. His ranking is not based on having the greatest raw destructive output, but on how many opponents are forced to change their entire strategy to deal with him. That makes him more complete and reliable than glass-cannon characters such as Nataku, while leaving him below the strongest all-around fighters.

  11. Joker

Why he ranks eleventh: Joker is an experienced anti-hero whose card-based ignition techniques, deception, mobility, and battlefield intelligence allow him to threaten opponents with greater raw power.

He is difficult to rank by simple destructive measurements. Joker’s value comes from creating favorable situations, exploiting openings, and refusing to fight in the way a stronger opponent expects. His experience as an independent fighter gives him practical advantages that many younger Fire Soldiers lack.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Joker is not as physically dominant as Burns or as difficult to damage as Charon, but his tactical flexibility makes him dangerous in a real encounter. A straightforward power-scaling list can underrate him because his best weapon is often the decision he makes before the attack begins.

  12. Ogun Montgomery

Why he ranks twelfth: Ogun is one of the strongest younger Fire Soldiers. His Third-Generation ability lets him create weapons from flames, giving him offensive flexibility instead of limiting him to a single kind of projectile or close-range attack.

His Adolla-linked enhancement, tattoos, and Yoruba-inspired techniques add unusually high burst damage and resilience. Ogun can maintain pressure, adapt his weapons to the fight, and endure punishment that would overwhelm a less developed Third Generation.

He ranks below Joker because he has less experience against the absolute top tier and has not demonstrated the same breadth of tactical experience. He ranks above most rank-and-file Fire Soldiers because his versatility and endurance make him a serious battlefield asset rather than simply a promising young talent.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  13. Nataku Son

Why he ranks thirteenth: Nataku is the list’s clearest glass-cannon entry. His awakened power can produce catastrophic long-range output capable of threatening a massive area, placing his destructive potential above what his position suggests.

The problem is control and combat completeness. Nataku lacks the durability, composure, and battle experience needed to consistently turn that output into victories against elite fighters. A large attack can be devastating while still leaving its user vulnerable to a faster, tougher, or more technically skilled opponent.

Charon’s ability to counter tremendous force demonstrates the distinction. Nataku can threaten a huge area, but Charon can make overwhelming attacks self-defeating. Nataku therefore belongs below the experienced elite while remaining above fighters whose maximum output is much lower.

  14. Captain Hague

Why he ranks fourteenth: Captain Hague is an experienced captain with substantial combat credibility. He belongs in the lower section of this list because the manga establishes him as a high-level veteran, but gives him less final-arc evidence than the characters ranked above him.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That makes his placement deliberately tentative. Hague should not be treated as a peer of Arthur, Dragon, Benimaru, or the final Pillar-level threats. At the same time, his experience and captain-level ability place him above ordinary Fire Soldiers and justify including him among the strongest established veterans.

  15. Konro Sagamiya

Why he ranks fifteenth: Konro is a veteran Third-Generation fighter, Benimaru’s trusted lieutenant, and one of the most capable established captains outside the final-arc monsters.

His controlled flame techniques and long combat experience make him formidable even when he is not operating at his best. However, the story shows the effects of ignition sickness and age-related limits, which reduce his ability to compete with younger or supernaturally amplified fighters over a prolonged battle.

Konro’s rank is therefore a measure of peak demonstrated combat standing, not a dismissal of his importance. He is still far stronger and more experienced than the majority of the Fire Force cast; the other fourteen simply possess greater endgame scale, specialized hax, or physical amplification.

The ranking’s closest debates

Arthur versus Benimaru

There are two defensible answers depending on what strongest means. Benimaru has the clearest in-universe title: the official profile calls him the strongest firefighter, and his Second- and Third-Generation hybrid ability makes him an exceptionally consistent fighter. Arthur, however, has the more extreme late-manga peak, especially after gaining new power in the Dragon battle. This ranking places Arthur fourth and Benimaru sixth because it prioritizes Arthur’s final offensive scale, but reversing them is reasonable if consistency and close-quarters ability matter more.

The Evangelist versus Haumea

The Evangelist is ranked separately because she represents the metaphysical power and overarching threat behind the Great Cataclysm. Haumea’s final state is treated as an empowered Pillar and vessel for that force. If the question is who is more dangerous in a direct fight, Haumea may be the more practical comparison; if the question is who stands higher in the story’s power structure, the Evangelist belongs above her.

Shō versus Kurono

Shō has the more absurd individual ability. Severed Universe can effectively stop the world around him, giving him an enormous ceiling against opponents who cannot counter the Adolla Link. Kurono is the more reliable conventional fighter, with fewer restrictions and a more complete practical combat record. Shō is ranked seventh for ability ceiling, while Kurono is eighth for sustained fighting effectiveness.

What anime-only viewers should know

This is not a list that can be reproduced from the anime’s earlier material alone. Official anime character profiles establish foundational abilities such as Haumea’s electrical control, Shō’s Severed Universe, Arthur’s plasma Excalibur, Burns’s internal furnace, Benimaru’s hybrid generation, and Konro’s status as a Third Generation.

The most decisive ranking evidence comes later in the manga. Shinrabanshoman, Arthur’s full late-series peak, Dragon’s outer-space battle, and Haumea’s final despair state all require manga spoilers beyond the anime-covered material referenced by those profiles. Anime-only readers should treat the first three entries, in particular, as unresolved rather than assuming the anime has already shown their full strength.

Reading the manga for the decisive feats

The two officially listed Fire Force box sets cover volumes 1–6 and 7–11, so they are useful for beginning the series but do not cover all 34 volumes. Readers interested specifically in Arthur versus Dragon should look toward Volume 31, while the final Shinrabanshoman and Haumea conflict belongs to Volume 34, the concluding volume. Availability can vary by format and territory.

Source note: The ranking uses the completed Fire Force manga, Kodansha’s official descriptions for Volumes 31 and 34, and official Fire Force character profiles for the core ability descriptions. Where the manga provides less final-arc evidence—especially for Kurono and Hague—the ranking is marked as more tentative rather than presented as an absolute measurement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Shinrabanshoman the strongest Fire Force character?

Yes. Using the strongest demonstrated state in the complete manga, Shinrabanshoman is the clear number-one choice because Shinra combines his Adolla Burst with the strength of the other Pillars and gains reality-altering power during the final conflict.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is Benimaru stronger than Arthur Boyle?

It depends on the standard. Benimaru is explicitly called the strongest firefighter and is the more consistent all-around combatant. Arthur’s final Excalibur feats, especially against Dragon, reach a higher offensive ceiling. This ranking places Arthur above Benimaru, but the two can reasonably be swapped.

Does this list use anime-only information?

No. It uses the complete 34-volume manga, including the Great Cataclysm and ending. Several of the most important placements—particularly Shinrabanshoman, final-state Haumea, Arthur’s peak, and Dragon—depend on manga material beyond earlier anime-covered events.

Do the Fire Force manga box sets contain the whole series?

No. Kodansha lists Box Set 1 as covering volumes 1–6 and Box Set 2 as covering volumes 7–11. The complete manga has 34 volumes, so additional volumes are required to reach the Arthur-Dragon battle and the ending.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Shinrabanshoman stands alone at the top, followed by the Evangelist and final-state Haumea. Arthur has the greatest conventional offensive peak, Dragon is the hardest physical opponent to put down, and Benimaru remains the strongest dependable firefighter. Below them, the ordering becomes more matchup-dependent: Shō has extraordinary time manipulation, Kurono and Joker excel through specialized combat ability, and Nataku’s huge output is limited by control and durability.
