The most popular movies on Netflix in the United States for the week of September 23–29, 2024, were led by The Garfield Movie. The chart also included Jailbreak: Love on the Run, Rebel Ridge, Uglies, and several animated or catalog titles.
Because September 27 fell within Netflix’s weekly reporting window, this is best understood as the U.S. Top 10 Movies chart for that week—not a worldwide ranking, an all-time list, or a judgment of critical quality. One entry, Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter: Season 1, was displayed in Netflix’s Movies category even though it is a documentary series season.

The 10 most popular Netflix movies in the U.S. from September 23–29, 2024
The following order comes from Netflix’s historical U.S. Top 10 Movies chart for the reporting week that included September 27, 2024. Netflix’s Top 10 rankings are regional and weekly, so a title’s position here does not necessarily match its position in other countries or on Netflix’s global English Films List.
-
The Garfield Movie
U.S. rank: No. 1
The 2024 animated family film was the week’s leading movie on Netflix in the United States. Its No. 1 position made it the clearest choice for viewers looking for a light, family-oriented feature, although the chart itself does not indicate whether viewers watched it from start to finish or how it compares with other Garfield films.

For viewers who prefer to keep a copy: Sony Pictures lists the film for home-video release, including DVD and Blu-ray editions. Availability, pricing, and the exact edition offered by retailers can change, so check the listing before buying. A disc purchase is separate from Netflix access and does not imply that the film will remain in any particular streaming catalog.
The Garfield Movie DVD is the most direct physical-media option for viewers who want to own the week’s No. 1 title.
-
Jailbreak: Love on the Run
U.S. rank: No. 2
This documentary about a dramatic prison escape and the relationship at its center ranked second in the U.S. Movies chart. Its strong placement was not limited to the American chart: Netflix’s contemporaneous global weekly report placed it third on the English Films List with 7.6 million views. Those are different measurements, however. The U.S. chart position and the global views figure should not be treated as interchangeable.
-
Rebel Ridge
U.S. rank: No. 3
Jeremy Saulnier’s action thriller took third place in the United States. Its U.S. position understated its performance on Netflix’s global English-language list during the same week, where it reclaimed No. 1 with 8.9 million views. That contrast is a useful reminder that a regional Top 10 ranking can look different from Netflix’s worldwide reporting.

Uglies
U.S. rank: No. 4
This dystopian science-fiction adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s young-adult novel ranked fourth in the U.S. The film also placed highly worldwide, coming in at No. 2 on Netflix’s English Films List with 8.7 million views for the reporting week.
Rank #2
-
The Super Mario Bros. Movie
U.S. rank: No. 5
The animated video-game adaptation occupied the middle of the U.S. chart. Netflix’s historical page displayed 38 weeks in its chart-tenure column for this reporting view. That figure describes the title’s presence in Netflix’s chart metadata; it should not be interpreted as a claim about 38 weeks of worldwide popularity or continuous availability.
-
American Gangster
U.S. rank: No. 6
Ridley Scott’s 2007 crime drama, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, ranked sixth. Its appearance alongside recent Netflix films and animated family releases illustrates how Netflix’s weekly chart can combine new releases with older licensed library titles that are attracting attention in a particular market.
-
Evil Dead Rise
U.S. rank: No. 7
The horror film placed seventh in the United States. Netflix’s related editorial coverage identifies it as a horror title and discusses comparable horror movies, but that editorial framing should not be confused with evidence that the film ranked higher because of a particular recommendation or that its chart position represents critical acclaim.

Trolls Band Together
U.S. rank: No. 8
The animated family sequel was eighth on the U.S. list. Its presence, together with The Garfield Movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and the two Boss Baby titles, gave the week’s chart a substantial family-viewing component.
Rank #3
-
Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter: Season 1
U.S. rank: No. 9
This is the chart’s classification exception. Netflix displayed Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter: Season 1 at No. 9 in the Movies category, but the official title explicitly identifies it as “Season 1.” It should therefore be described as a documentary series season rather than a standalone documentary feature film.
Its inclusion also demonstrates why readers should check the title label and not assume that every entry in a Movies-category list is a feature-length movie.
-
The Boss Baby
U.S. rank: No. 10
The animated comedy completed the U.S. Top 10 for the week. Its No. 10 position indicates that it met Netflix’s chart criteria in this market and reporting window; it does not establish an all-time popularity ranking or guarantee that it remains available in the United States or elsewhere.

What Netflix’s “most popular” label actually means
Netflix’s Top 10 page reports rankings for a selected territory and week. In this case, the relevant territory is the United States, and the reporting window is September 23–29, 2024. September 27 is the date specified for the requested snapshot, not a separate one-day measurement.
The ranking does not mean:
- the films were the best reviewed;
- they were the most watched movies worldwide;
- they were the most popular films in Netflix history;
- every viewer watched the complete title; or
- the titles would still be available in the same country later.
Netflix’s global weekly report helps show why geography matters. During the same reporting period, Rebel Ridge was No. 1 on the global English Films List, while it was No. 3 in the U.S. chart. Jailbreak: Love on the Run was No. 2 in the United States but No. 3 globally among English films. A U.S. ranking and a worldwide views list are therefore related but distinct datasets.
A mixed chart rather than a “best movies” list
The week’s results combine a newly prominent animated release, Netflix films and documentaries, older licensed cinema, horror, and family franchises. That mixture is better read as an engagement snapshot than as a curated recommendation list.
For documentary viewers, the two nonfiction entries are especially important: Jailbreak: Love on the Run reached No. 2, while Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter: Season 1 reached No. 9 despite appearing in a movie-category chart. The list therefore captures both feature-documentary interest and the continuing difficulty of treating streaming categories as perfectly consistent genre or format labels.

No. The chart measures popularity or engagement within Netflix’s selected market and reporting window. It is not a review score or a definitive ranking of film quality.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 for September 23–29, 2024, was led by The Garfield Movie, followed by the documentary Jailbreak: Love on the Run and Rebel Ridge.
