For Halloween 2026, Netflix’s October horror guide offers a mix of slashers, supernatural stories, creature features, sci-fi scares and dark comedy. The 15 picks below are a varied shortlist, not an objective ranking. Netflix says its recommendations may vary by region, and titles can leave the service, so check your local catalogue before settling on a movie.
Netflix Tudum’s October 1, 2026 “31 Days of Horror” guide is the basis for the selections; Netflix’s US Halloween browse page provides a separate catalogue snapshot. Ratings and runtimes are useful planning cues, but confirm them in your local title listing.
What are the best horror movies on Netflix to watch on Halloween?
Choose by the kind of scare you want rather than treating this list as a universal ranking. The picks range from a fast home-invasion thriller to slow-burn unease, old-school suspense, creature horror and a deliberately absurd horror-comedy. Netflix Tudum’s scare categories are editorial judgments, not a standardized measure of intensity.
For a lighter or more playful scare
The Trip (2021)
1h 54m · TV-MA · Horror-comedy. An estranged couple head to a remote home with plans to kill one another, then face danger beyond their marriage. Pick it for bloody violence mixed with dark, absurd humor rather than straight-faced dread.

M3GAN (2023)
1h 42m · PG-13 · Sci-fi horror. A scientist’s advanced android is designed to protect a child, but turns violent toward people it sees as threats. Its killer-robot premise and comparatively accessible rating make it a possible choice for a mixed group, though a rating is not a guarantee that every viewer will be comfortable.
Jaws (1975)
2h 4m · PG · Creature thriller. When a man-eating shark threatens a New England resort town, the police chief joins a marine biologist and a hunter to stop it. It brings classic suspense and creature peril without the contemporary slasher setup.
For slashers and tense human threats
Friday the 13th (1980)
1h 35m · R · Slasher. As Camp Crystal Lake reopens, its counselors are killed one by one. This is a compact pick for viewers in the mood for a foundational franchise slasher.
The Conference (2023)
1h 40m · TV-MA · Slasher satire. A team-building retreat turns into a trapped-group fight for survival. Its remote setting and workplace satire suit viewers who want a body-count story with a corporate target.

Hush (2016)
1h 21m · R · Home-invasion thriller. A deaf, hard-of-hearing horror novelist living alone in the woods faces a masked intruder. The confined setup and resourceful lead make it a strong pick for a short, tense watch rather than a sprawling supernatural mystery.
The Black Phone (2021)
Kidnapping horror with a supernatural thread. A kidnapped boy is held by a masked serial killer while his sister’s strange dreams may help locate him. The consulted Netflix guide excerpt gives the premise but not a runtime or rating; check the current local title listing for those details.

Malevolent (2018)
1h 28m · TV-MA · Haunted-house horror. Scam-artist siblings who fake paranormal investigations encounter a house that appears to be genuinely haunted. The deception at the center gives this ghost-story setup an extra twist.
I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016)
1h 29m · TV-14 · Atmospheric supernatural horror. A live-in hospice nurse cares for a retired horror writer in a secluded house and senses that something is wrong. Choose it for a slow, hushed build of unease, not a rapid sequence of shocks.
In the Tall Grass (2019)
1h 41m · TV-MA · Supernatural maze horror. Siblings enter a field after hearing a child call for help, then lose their way in a landscape that seems to defy logic. Based on a novella by Stephen King and Joe Hill, it is a disorienting choice for viewers who like enclosed-space stories.

Aliens (1986)
2h 17m · R · Sci-fi action horror. Ellen Ripley returns to confront a Xenomorph outbreak alongside a Colonial Marine team. It is a sequel to Alien, so viewers who want the full story may prefer to watch that film first; this entry leans into action as well as creature suspense.
Fear Street Part 1: 1994 (2021)
1h 47m · R · Teen slasher and supernatural horror. Teens in Shadyside investigate gruesome deaths and a possible witch’s curse. It begins a trilogy whose later installments move back to 1978 and 1666, making it a good pick if you want a Halloween watch that can continue into a series of movie nights.

Psycho (1960)
1h 48m · R · Psychological suspense. Alfred Hitchcock’s classic follows Marion Crane to the Bates Motel and its unsettling proprietor, Norman. Its black-and-white suspense is a different sort of Halloween watch from a modern gore-heavy film.
Nope (2022)
2h 10m · R · Horror and science fiction. Siblings who train horses for film productions investigate an unexplained presence above their California ranch. Choose it for a modern blend of horror, sci-fi and western imagery rather than a conventional haunted-house story.
How to choose a Halloween watch
- Want a shorter movie? Hush is the briefest listed at 1h 21m; Malevolent runs 1h 28m.
- Prefer a classic? Choose Psycho, Jaws or Friday the 13th for distinct kinds of older-school suspense and horror.
- Want a film with follow-up context? Fear Street Part 1: 1994 starts a trilogy; Aliens is a sequel to Alien.
- Watching with a group? A familiar classic, a creature thriller or the comic edge of The Trip may be easier to agree on than relentless slasher violence. Check Netflix’s local rating and consider the tastes of everyone watching.
Runtimes and ratings above are those shown in the October 2026 Tudum guide where available; local catalogue records can differ. Netflix’s guide also notes that its recommendations may vary by region, so availability in the United States does not establish availability elsewhere.
