The HBO Max BritBox pop-up has ended. The U.S.-only promotion ran from August 1 through September 29, 2025, giving HBO Max subscribers temporary access to a curated selection of British programs in a dedicated in-app rail called The Best of British TV by BritBox. It is not accurate to describe these 15 titles as currently streaming on HBO Max in August 2026 without a new, title-by-title catalog check.
Here is the complete lineup, the season details reported for the promotion, and the most reliable ways to look for similar programming now.
What the HBO Max and BritBox promotion included
Warner Bros. Discovery and BritBox used HBO Max for a short-term programming pop-up aimed at U.S. subscribers. Rather than moving the entire BritBox catalog to HBO Max, the arrangement featured a limited, curated sample of British television. Viewers could find it in the HBO Max app under the rail “The Best of British TV by BritBox.”
During the active window, an eligible HBO Max subscription was enough to watch the selected programs; viewers did not need to pay separately for a BritBox subscription for this particular promotion. The offer was available from Friday, August 1, 2025, through Monday, September 29, 2025. Availability was reported for the United States, not every country where either service operates. Contemporaneous coverage from TVLine and Tom’s Guide’s report describe the arrangement as a temporary sampling opportunity, not a permanent HBO Max library expansion.

The complete 15-title BritBox lineup
The promotion was commonly described as featuring 15 “series,” but that number refers to 15 title groupings. Several entries included multiple seasons, and The Office UK also included its two-part Christmas special. The following is the complete reported selection.
Mysteries and crime dramas
- Agatha Christie’s Murder Is Easy — A television adaptation of Christie’s 1939 novel. The official Agatha Christie site identifies the production as based on the novel of the same name.
- Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero — A mystery adaptation drawn from Christie’s work.
- Blue Lights — Seasons 1 and 2.
- Father Brown — Seasons 1 and 2.
- Luther — Seasons 1 and 2, with the seasons staged across the promotional period according to contemporaneous listings.
- Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators — A lighter British private-investigator mystery.
- Sherwood — Season 1.
- Silent Witness — Seasons 26 and 27.
- Sister Boniface Mysteries — Seasons 1 and 2.
- The Inspector Lynley Mysteries — The British detective drama was included as a title grouping.
- Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? — A mystery adaptation based on Agatha Christie’s novel.
Drama and literary adaptations
- The Sixth Commandment — A fact-based British drama.
- Three Little Birds — A period drama inspired by stories of Caribbean migration to Britain.
- Time — Seasons 1 and 2, with the seasons scheduled across the promotional window in contemporaneous coverage.
Comedy
- The Office UK — Seasons 1 and 2, plus the two-part Christmas special.
Important: The Office UK is the original British sitcom created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. It is not the later U.S. adaptation starring Steve Carell. Search results for “The Office complete series” frequently refer to the American version, so check the title, cast, packaging, and region information carefully.

What viewers could watch during the pop-up
At the time, the practical steps were straightforward:
- Open the HBO Max app or website with a U.S. HBO Max subscription.
- Look for the dedicated “The Best of British TV by BritBox” rail.
- Choose one of the promoted title groupings.
- Watch without adding a separate BritBox subscription for the promotional selection.
Because the promotion was temporary, a title could also have been subject to scheduling or season-level differences. The presence of one season did not mean that every season of a long-running program was included.
Where to look for these shows now
BritBox is the most direct ongoing alternative
For viewers who enjoyed the selection and want a continuing British-TV catalog, BritBox is the most obvious place to start. Its U.S. service describes a catalog spanning British dramas, comedies, mysteries, documentaries, soaps, and related programming, with viewing supported on phones, tablets, computers, streaming devices, and smart TVs. The service currently presents monthly, annual, and Premier plan options, but pricing, plan details, and title availability are changeable. Check the BritBox U.S. service information and the current catalog before subscribing.

Do not assume that all 15 HBO Max pop-up titles are currently available on BritBox, or that they are available in every country. The sensible approach is to search for a specific show and season before signing up. A subscription or gift subscription may make sense for viewers seeking a broad British-TV library, but the expired HBO Max promotion itself is not proof that a particular title remains there.
Physical media can solve the problem for The Office UK
If your priority is the original British The Office, a DVD collection avoids the uncertainty of rotating streaming rights. Documented retail listings describe complete collections containing the two series and both Christmas specials. When shopping, use a specific search such as “The Office UK DVD” or “The Office UK complete collection DVD”, then verify all of the following:
Recommended Free Tools
- It says UK or identifies Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
- The package includes both series and the Christmas specials if that is what you want.
- The disc region and video format work with your player. U.S. buyers should pay particular attention to region coding and PAL/NTSC compatibility.
- The seller, edition, subtitles, condition, and return policy are clear.
The British Comedy Guide’s retail reference is useful for distinguishing the original series from similarly named American releases. For readers who want to own the featured sitcom, The Office UK complete collection DVD is the appropriate search path—but confirm the exact listing before buying.
Read the source novel behind Murder Is Easy
The Christie adaptation also offers a natural book-first option. Murder Is Easy is based on Agatha Christie’s novel, and the author’s official site provides a “Read It Before You See It” path for the story. Readers who prefer to encounter the mystery in print can look for an Agatha Christie Murder Is Easy book. That is a companion recommendation, not a replacement for the television adaptation; verify the edition, format, seller, and delivery details.
How to choose what to watch first
| If you want… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A classic British detective mood | Father Brown or The Inspector Lynley Mysteries | Both fit a traditional British mystery preference, though the available seasons may vary now. |
| A darker modern crime drama | Luther, Blue Lights, or Sherwood | These are stronger choices for tense contemporary crime storytelling. |
| Forensic crime television | Silent Witness | The promotion specifically included seasons 26 and 27, rather than the entire long-running series. |
| A gentle, humorous mystery | Sister Boniface Mysteries or Shakespeare & Hathaway | Both offer a lighter alternative to the more serious crime dramas. |
| A literary mystery | Murder Is Easy, Towards Zero, or Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? | These are adaptations connected to Agatha Christie’s fiction. |
| A short British sitcom | The Office UK | The pop-up included both series and the two-part Christmas special; distinguish it from the U.S. remake. |
| Prison drama | Time | The promotion included seasons 1 and 2, scheduled across the event window. |
What the promotion did—and did not—mean
- It did mean: U.S. HBO Max subscribers could sample a selected BritBox lineup during a defined promotional period without a separate BritBox charge for those programs.
- It did not mean: the entire BritBox catalog had moved to HBO Max.
- It did not mean: the same titles were available in every territory.
- It did not mean: every season of each featured program was included.
- It does not mean now: that the HBO Max rail remains available after September 29, 2025.
Third-party lists for this event should also be treated cautiously. Titles such as Broadchurch, Vera, and Grantchester may be associated with British-TV streaming recommendations, but they should not automatically be added to this specific 15-title HBO Max/BritBox lineup.

The Bottom Line
The HBO Max/BritBox pop-up was a temporary U.S. promotion, not a permanent streaming-home change. It ran from August 1 to September 29, 2025 and featured 15 curated title groupings, including selected seasons of Blue Lights, Father Brown, Luther, Silent Witness, Sister Boniface Mysteries, and Time, as well as The Office UK with its Christmas special. For current viewing, check BritBox and other territory-specific listings title by title; for lasting access to The Office UK, consider a correctly identified physical edition.
