The month brought Shane Black’s action-heist film Play Dirty, the psychological thriller Harlan Coben’s Lazarus, the return of Hazbin Hotel, sports documentaries about Saquon Barkley and Allen Iverson, international dramas, a family faith series, and several romance and literary adaptations.
This U.S.-oriented guide highlights 12 notable October releases, with exact premiere dates and the best reason to choose each one. The 12 notable October 2025 Prime Video releases
1. Play Dirty — October 1, 2025
Shane Black opened the month with Play Dirty, an action thriller with a crime-comedy edge. Mark Wahlberg plays Parker, an expert thief who assembles a crew for a major score. LaKeith Stanfield plays Grofield, while Rosa Salazar plays Zen. The job becomes considerably more dangerous when the crew runs into the New York mob.
The film is based on Donald E. Westlake’s Parker crime novels, written under the pseudonym Richard Stark. That gives Play Dirty a pulp-crime foundation, while Black’s involvement points toward the fast dialogue, reversals, and dark humor associated with his action work.
Best for: Viewers looking for the month’s clearest new action-movie pick, especially those who like stylish heists, ensemble crews, and criminal schemes that go wrong.

At the same time, Charlie begins an anonymous online relationship with Beau, played by Jacob Scipio. She does not realize that Beau is the owner of the rival business. The setup combines enemies-to-lovers tension with the mistaken-identity and anonymous-correspondence traditions of classic romance stories.
Best for: Anyone who prefers romance with a practical workplace setting, business rivalry, and a built-in secret-identity complication.

The documentary Saquon follows Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley’s path to Super Bowl success. It looks beyond game-day highlights to the injuries, contract disputes, professional setbacks, and persistence that shaped his career.
Amazon lists Martin Scorsese as an executive producer and frames the film around Barkley’s resilience and elite NFL career. The result is the most direct choice in this lineup for football fans, though its career-comeback angle also gives it appeal to viewers who generally enjoy athlete biographies.

This is not the ideal entry point for new viewers. To understand the relationship, its history, and the emotional stakes of the reunion, watch Culpa Mía and Culpa Tuya first.

6. The Chosen Adventures — October 17, 2025

Although the show is presented as an adventure series for younger viewers, its religious setting is central rather than incidental. It is best described as faith-oriented family animation, not as a general-purpose children’s fantasy series.
Best for: Families seeking animated biblical storytelling and viewers specifically interested in children’s religious programming.

Harlan Coben’s Lazarus is a six-episode psychological thriller starring Sam Claflin as Joel Lazarus. After his father’s death, Joel returns home and becomes entangled in cold-case murders and disturbing experiences connected to his family history. Bill Nighy plays Joel’s father.
An important distinction is that Lazarus is not a direct adaptation of one of Coben’s novels. It is an original story created by Harlan Coben and Danny Brocklehurst. That makes it a useful choice for viewers who enjoy Coben’s familiar combination of family secrets, crime mysteries, and escalating revelations but have already worked through his book adaptations.
All six episodes were released together on October 22, making this a complete limited-series binge rather than a weekly mystery.

The three-part docuseries Allen Iv3rson examines the life, basketball career, and cultural influence of NBA legend Allen Iverson. Its compact structure makes it suited to a single-session sports-documentary binge.
Iverson’s importance extends beyond his statistics and highlights. His playing style, public image, and influence on basketball culture made him one of the defining figures of his era. The series therefore has a broader focus than a conventional career retrospective centered only on wins and losses.
Best for: Basketball fans, viewers interested in athlete influence beyond the court, and anyone looking for a short three-part documentary series.
9. Hedda — October 29, 2025
Nia DaCosta’s Hedda is a modern reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s 1890 play Hedda Gabler, with Tessa Thompson in the title role. The story follows Hedda, a newlywed whose dissatisfaction and unresolved past collide with jealousy, manipulation, passion, and betrayal.

Best for: Viewers drawn to literary adaptations, psychologically tense relationship dramas, and stories about social constraint and personal dissatisfaction.

11. Dime tu nombre — October 31, 2025
Dime tu nombre is a Spanish-language series set in 1997 in Río Blanco, a strawberry-growing village where residents have reached an uneasy accommodation with Moroccan immigrants.
The premise places community relationships, migration, and cultural tension at the center of the drama. It is one of the month’s strongest choices for viewers looking beyond English-language Prime Originals and exploring international programming.
Best for: Viewers seeking Spanish-language drama with a rural setting and a story focused on immigration, identity, and uneasy coexistence.
12. Tremembé — October 31, 2025
Tremembé is a Brazilian scripted miniseries set in the Tremembé Penitentiary Complex, a prison associated with some of Brazil’s most notorious criminals. Its setting makes it a natural recommendation for viewers drawn to prison drama and true-crime-inspired fiction.
It should not be described as a documentary. The available release materials classify it as a scripted Prime Video miniseries, so viewers should approach it as dramatized storytelling rather than a factual documentary account.
Best for: Audiences interested in Brazilian television, prison narratives, and fictional series influenced by notorious criminal cases.

Older licensed films were also added to Prime Video during October, including a number of titles that appeared in the catalog on October 1. Those catalog additions should not be confused with the month’s principal new Amazon Originals and featured premieres.
Availability can also change after a licensing period ends. Check the individual title page in your country before planning a watchlist or assuming that a title remains included at no extra cost.
Frequently Asked Questions
Were all 12 titles included with Prime Video at no additional cost?
Not necessarily. The lineup is U.S.-oriented, and access can depend on territory, licensing, Prime membership status, rental or purchase options, and add-on channels. Confirm the current title page before watching.
Which October 2025 Prime Video releases can be watched as complete binges?
Harlan Coben’s Lazarus released all six episodes together. Allen Iv3rson was also a compact three-part docuseries. Hazbin Hotel Season 2 launched with opening episodes on October 29 rather than releasing its entire season at once.
Do I need to watch anything before Culpa Nuestra?
Yes. Culpa Nuestra concludes the Culpables trilogy, so watch Culpa Mía and Culpa Tuya first for the relationship history and emotional context.
Is Hedda based on a book?
Hedda is a modern film reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s play Hedda Gabler. It is not an adaptation of a novel. Reading the original play can help viewers compare Ibsen’s source material with Nia DaCosta’s screen version.
Recommended Free Tools
Is Tremembé a documentary?
No. Available release materials classify Tremembé as a scripted Brazilian miniseries, although its prison setting and subject matter are connected to real-world criminal notoriety.
The Bottom Line
The broadest starting points from Prime Video’s October 2025 lineup were Play Dirty for action, Harlan Coben’s Lazarus for a complete thriller binge, and Hazbin Hotel Season 2 for adult animation. The rest of the month’s strongest choices depended on taste: Maintenance Required and Culpa Nuestra for romance, Hedda for literary drama, three sports and comedy documentaries, and international programming from Spain and Brazil.
