What Amy Slaton Halterman pleaded guilty to
Halterman pleaded guilty to one count of simple possession of marijuana and one count of simple possession of mushrooms. The original case involved substances identified in reports as Schedule VI marijuana and a Schedule I substance.
The final disposition should not be described as a felony marijuana conviction. The marijuana charge was reduced to simple possession as part of the agreement. Some early reports also used a different schedule classification, but local coverage and subsequent court-record reporting identified the relevant classifications as Schedule I and Schedule VI.

The sentence and plea conditions
Halterman received a sentence of 11 months and 29 days, suspended, with credit for time served. Because the sentence was suspended, she did not receive additional jail time following the plea.
The reported terms included:
- Two years of supervised probation
- A $1,000 fine, plus court costs
- A drug-and-alcohol assessment and compliance with its recommendations
- Completion of a state-certified parenting class
- No contact with Tennessee Safari Park and a ban from the park
The $1,000 figure is the amount reported by local coverage and later court-record-based accounts. An earlier entertainment report listed a $500 fine, but that amount was not used in the definitive account of the disposition.
How the case began
The case dates to September 2, 2024, when deputies responded to Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo, Tennessee. The initial call reportedly involved a guest who had allegedly been bitten by a camel.

According to the arrest coverage, deputies said they detected suspicious odors coming from a vehicle. A search reportedly uncovered approximately two ounces of marijuana and suspected mushrooms. Two children were reportedly inside the vehicle at the time.

Halterman and Brian Scott Lovvorn were arrested and initially released on $10,000 bond. Halterman first pleaded not guilty. The child-related charges and possession allegations then remained pending until the December plea agreement.
Child-related charges dismissed
The plea agreement dismissed the child abuse and child endangerment charges. Those allegations therefore did not result in convictions in the final disposition reported on December 19.

The dismissal is separate from the conditions imposed on the drug-possession convictions. The parenting-class requirement was one of the reported terms of the plea agreement; it does not mean that Halterman was convicted of child abuse or child endangerment.
Why the distinction matters
Several details in early coverage were easy to misstate: Halterman was not sentenced to active jail time, the final marijuana conviction was for simple possession rather than a felony marijuana offense, and the reported fine was $1,000 rather than $500.
The case also concerns a criminal proceeding involving Amy Slaton Halterman, her legal name in the court matter. “Amy Slaton” is the name by which television audiences generally know her through 1000-Lb. Sisters.
