The youngest acting award recipient in the Academy’s official ranking is Shirley Temple, who was 6 years and 310 days old at the ceremony. The list covers acting awards—not every Oscar category—and combines honorary recipients with competitive winners. Its ages measure each recipient on the awards-ceremony date, not when the honored film was released.
How the ranking works
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences publishes a “Youngest” acting-recipient ranking with birth dates, ceremony dates and ages. The entries below follow that official order and use its published ages. The list is not a ranking of ten competitive acting Oscar winners: Shirley Temple received a Special Award, and several other young performers were recognized with the Academy’s honorary Juvenile Award. The Academy describes the Juvenile Award as an honorary award for performers under 18; it was presented intermittently to 12 child actors, beginning with Temple and ending with Hayley Mills.

| 4 | Jon Whiteley | 10 years, 39 days | 1954 | Acting award recipient |
| 5 | Ivan Jandl | 12 years, 59 days | 1948 | Acting award recipient |
| 6 | Claude Jarman, Jr. | 12 years, 167 days | 1946 | Acting award recipient |

What the youngest-recipient label does—and does not—mean
This is a combined list of acting award recipients, including honorary recognition, rather than a list of competitive acting-category winners alone. The official table’s age is the recipient’s age on the ceremony date; an award year by itself does not indicate how old the person was when the film opened.

Temple’s 1934 recognition was officially described as a Special Award. The Academy’s record reads: “To Shirley Temple, in grateful recognition of her outstanding contribution to screen entertainment during the year 1934.” That is the wording of the award record, not a quotation attributed to a named speaker. Academy record of Temple’s 1934 award.
For a different question—who was the youngest winner of a competitive acting Oscar—this combined ranking cannot by itself settle the record. The Academy’s database is its official awards record and its page says it is complete through the 2025 (98th) Awards, presented March 15, 2026. Check the category and award record rather than treating an honorary placement as a competitive win: Academy Awards Database. The supplied verified example of a competitive child acting win is Tatum O’Neal’s 1974 supporting-actress award for Paper Moon; that fact alone does not establish the youngest-competitive record.
