Saitama is the clear first choice: VIZ describes him as practically invincible, with mighty opponents defeated in one punch. The order below him is an editorial comparison of demonstrated fighting ability—not an official ranking—and should not be confused with Hero Association class or narrative importance.
What “the start of Season 3” means
Season 3 begins with the Hero Association preparing to raid the Monster Association hideout after a child connected to an Association executive is kidnapped. Garou has been taken to the hideout and awakens there. That setup is described in VIZ’s Season 3 guide. The Japanese official anime announcement identifies the opening as Hero Association versus Monster Association and names executives and S-Class heroes as the focus of coming fights; it does not provide a character-by-character power order.

The cutoff matters: feats and revelations from later parts of the raid do not belong in an opening-season ranking. VIZ’s guide to the season points readers to manga Volume 17 as a preview, but that is not a guarantee of exact episode-to-chapter correspondence.
How this ranking works
This is a reasoned ranking of combat strength at the cutoff, not an official list. It weighs demonstrated striking power, speed, durability or recovery, technique, and versatility. Hero Association rank and reputation can offer context, but neither is a fight result. The official summaries establish the conflict and Saitama’s exceptional premise, not a definitive top ten; placements below him involve editorial judgment.
#1 Best Overall
The 10 strongest characters at the opening of Season 3
-
Saitama
Saitama stands alone at number one. VIZ’s synopsis says that after three years of special training he has become practically invincible, and that even mighty opponents are defeated with one punch. That supports his exceptional position, but it does not give a measurable ceiling for his strength or prove how he would fare against every character in the series.
-
Blast
Blast belongs near the top on the strength of his standing as the Hero Association’s highest-ranked S-Class hero and the extraordinary reputation attached to that position. Rank alone does not establish that he can defeat every other fighter, so placing him above Tatsumaki is an editorial judgment rather than a demonstrated result at this cutoff.
Rank #2
-
Tatsumaki
Tatsumaki’s psychic power gives her exceptional offensive force, defense, and reach. Those abilities make her one of the strongest active combatants in the opening conflict. Her placement just below Blast reflects the difficulty of comparing distinct powers and the limited direct evidence for a definitive head-to-head ordering.
-
Garou
Garou is a formidable martial artist whose adaptability and technique let him challenge opponents stronger than he appears. At the opening, however, he has been taken to the Monster Association hideout and awakens there; later transformations or raid feats cannot be used to inflate this position. His ranking reflects the fighting ability already established before that point.

-
Bang
Bang’s martial skill and experience make him dangerous even without relying on the largest explosive attacks. Against a close-range opponent, technique and timing can matter as much as raw output. He ranks below Garou because this list compares demonstrated overall combat potential at the cutoff, not simply mastery of a martial art.
-
Orochi
Orochi is a major Monster Association threat, with a scale and physical presence that set him apart from ordinary monsters. His precise position against elite heroes is harder to establish than Saitama’s: the official season material introduces the conflict but does not certify a comparative strength order. This slot is therefore a close editorial placement, not a canon ranking.
Rank #4
-
Flashy Flash
Flashy Flash combines elite speed with swordsmanship, making him especially dangerous when he can dictate the pace of a fight. Speed can create openings against stronger opponents, but it does not automatically settle matchups against durable, ranged, or psychic fighters. That balance keeps him below the characters above him here.
-
Metal Bat
Metal Bat’s strength and ability to keep fighting through damage make him a threat in prolonged combat. His effectiveness is less straightforward to compare with specialists who rely on speed, psychic force, or technique. He ranks in the lower part of this top ten because resilience is powerful, but does not answer every matchup.

-
Atomic Samurai
Atomic Samurai’s swordsmanship gives him exceptional precision and close-range lethality. His fighting style is most effective when he can bring that speed and technique to bear; opponents who can keep him at a distance or absorb attacks present a different challenge. This ranking values his demonstrated skill while recognizing that matchup differences matter.
-
Genos
Genos rounds out the list as a high-output combatant with powerful ranged attacks and rapid, aggressive offense. His weapons make him versatile, though his history of taking heavy damage limits how confidently he can be placed above more durable or experienced fighters. The list’s final slot is particularly debatable, since a strict top ten depends on how one weighs matchup advantages against consistent performance.
Why Hero Association rank is not a power ranking
Hero Association classes and positions serve the organization’s system; they are not a universal measurement of who wins a fight. A high class can signal exceptional standing, but combat outcomes depend on abilities, circumstances, opponents, and evidence already shown. That is why this list treats Blast’s status as context, not proof of an uncontested position, and compares characters across different strengths.
Where to pick up the story in the manga
VIZ’s September 16, 2025 Season 3 announcement recommends manga Volume 17 as a place to preview the upcoming season. It is a publisher-suggested starting point for that purpose, not a promise that the anime follows the volume chapter-for-chapter. VIZ’s announcement also reported more than 33 million copies in circulation for the original manga series; that figure was stated on May 27, 2025, and is not a 2026 circulation total.
