The Merry Gentlemen was Netflix’s most popular English-language movie during the week that included November 22, 2024, with 14.7 million views. Hot Frosty followed with 12.7 million, while Spellbound debuted at No. 3 with 8.5 million.
This is Netflix’s global weekly chart for November 18–24—not a real-time daily ranking and not a U.S.-only list.
The most popular movies on Netflix on November 22, 2024 were led by two holiday romantic comedies: The Merry Gentlemen ranked No. 1 with 14.7 million views, followed by Hot Frosty with 12.7 million.
There is an important qualification: Netflix did not publish a single real-time worldwide ranking for November 22. The figures below come from Netflix’s global English-language Films Top 10 for the week of November 18–24, 2024, the reporting week that included November 22. Netflix finalized its weekly recap on November 26 and notes that availability can differ by region. (Netflix’s weekly recap)

Netflix defines a “view” using hours watched divided by a title’s runtime. That means these figures measure Netflix viewing during the week, not ticket sales, total lifetime popularity, or a judgment of quality. The chart also combines Netflix originals with licensed and older films. (Netflix Top 10)
1. The Merry Gentlemen — 14.7 million views
The Merry Gentlemen opened the week at No. 1. Britt Robertson and Chad Michael Murray lead this holiday romantic comedy, which follows a former big-city dancer who organizes an all-male Christmas revue to help save her parents’ small-town venue.
Its first-place finish, alongside two other Christmas romances in the Top 10, shows how strongly Netflix’s seasonal programming shaped this particular week. The film’s debut also gave it an advantage over titles that had already spent multiple weeks accumulating viewers.
2. Hot Frosty — 12.7 million views
Lacey Chabert and Dustin Milligan star in Hot Frosty, a romantic comedy built around a deliberately magical premise: a snowman comes to life as a handsome man. It slipped from No. 1 in the previous week to No. 2, but its 12.7 million views kept it well ahead of every non-holiday title except the chart leader.

The film remained one of Netflix’s two dominant global English-language movie choices during the week before Thanksgiving.
3. Spellbound — 8.5 million views
Spellbound debuted at No. 3 with 8.5 million views. The animated fantasy musical was released on Netflix on November 22, the first day of the reporting week, so its total covers only part of the seven-day period.

Rachel Zegler voices Princess Ellian, whose parents have been transformed into monsters. The film was directed by Vicky Jenson, with songs by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater. Its immediate Top 10 entry provided a family-oriented alternative to the holiday romances at the top of the chart. (Netflix’s description of the week’s chart)
4. Minions: The Rise of Gru — 7.8 million views
Minions: The Rise of Gru ranked fourth with 7.8 million views. Its presence illustrates why a Netflix Top 10 should not be read as a list of Netflix-produced films: this established animated franchise title performed strongly alongside current Netflix releases.
For families choosing a familiar animated film, it ranked ahead of both Ready or Not and the documentary Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy.
5. Ready or Not — 7.5 million views
The 2019 horror-comedy Ready or Not took fifth place with 7.5 million views and returned for a second consecutive week in the global English-language Films Top 10.
Its placement is a useful reminder that the week’s dominant mood was not exclusively festive. Viewers also continued choosing a darker, more satirical option, giving the older catalog title a position only slightly behind the animated family hit at No. 4.
6. Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy — 7.1 million views
For documentary viewers, the week’s most significant entry was Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy, which ranked sixth with 7.1 million views. The film examines consumer culture and the consequences of modern shopping.

- Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision delivers captivating, true-to-life detail[4]; and you can connect speakers that support Dolby Atmos for more immersive 3D sound
Its timing was especially relevant: the chart arrived just before Thanksgiving and Black Friday, when shopping advice, promotions, and pressure to buy become unusually prominent. A documentary questioning that system reached 7.1 million Netflix views during precisely that period.
It also demonstrates the difference between a chart position and a genre judgment. The documentary did not rank as highly as the leading holiday films, but it was more popular that week on Netflix than several major narrative and family titles.
7. Meet Me Next Christmas — 5.9 million views
Christina Milian stars in Meet Me Next Christmas, in which Layla searches New York for a ticket to a sold-out Pentatonix Christmas Eve concert. It placed seventh with 5.9 million views in its third week on the chart.
Its continued presence meant that three holiday romantic comedies—The Merry Gentlemen, Hot Frosty, and Meet Me Next Christmas—occupied the same weekly global English-language Top 10.

8. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa — 3.8 million views
The animated sequel Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa entered the chart at No. 8 with 3.8 million views. Like Minions: The Rise of Gru, it was a catalog family title rather than a new Netflix original, suggesting that recognizable animation remained a reliable choice for households during the week.
9. The Hunt — 3.7 million views
The Hunt ranked ninth with 3.7 million views. Because multiple films share this English title, year, cast, and plot details should not be attached to this chart entry without first checking the relevant Netflix title page or artwork in the viewer’s region.

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
The safest conclusion from the available chart data is simply that the Netflix-listed film entered the global English-language Top 10 during the reporting week.
10. Rob Peace — 3.3 million views
Rob Peace completed the list with 3.3 million views. It entered the chart during the week as a biographical drama. The available contemporaneous chart record supports its position and view count, but additional cast or plot information should be confirmed against Netflix’s title metadata before being used to identify the film more specifically.

What the chart says about Netflix viewing that week
Holiday films dominated the top tier
The clearest pattern was seasonal. Two holiday romances occupied the first two positions, and a third appeared at No. 7. Netflix’s own recap characterized the week’s movie list as heavily holiday-oriented. This was not a random concentration: the reporting week fell immediately before Thanksgiving and the start of the Black Friday shopping period.
The list mixed originals, licensed films, and older titles
“Most popular on Netflix” does not mean “most successful Netflix original.” The chart included current Netflix releases such as The Merry Gentlemen, Hot Frosty, and Spellbound, but also included Minions: The Rise of Gru, Ready or Not, and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. Their presence reflects viewing on Netflix during that week, regardless of who produced or originally distributed each film.
Spellbound’s No. 3 debut needs context
Spellbound reached No. 3 despite being released on November 22. Its 8.5 million views therefore do not represent a full Monday-through-Sunday launch window. Comparing its total directly with the films available throughout the week understates how quickly it attracted viewers.
This was not a U.S.-only list
The ranking is global and limited to English-language films. It should not be described as “what Americans watched on November 22,” nor as a real-time daily ranking. Netflix separates global lists from country-specific lists and English-language films from non-English films. Individual titles may also be unavailable in some countries.

What to watch first, depending on your mood
The following is editorial guidance, not a second Netflix ranking:
- For a seasonal romantic comedy: Start with The Merry Gentlemen, the week’s No. 1 film, or Hot Frosty for a more overtly magical premise.
- For animation and fantasy: Choose Spellbound if you want a new musical fantasy, or Minions: The Rise of Gru and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa for familiar family viewing.
- For horror with comic elements: Try Ready or Not, the highest-ranked non-holiday live-action catalog title.
- For a documentary: Watch Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy, particularly if you want a film connected to the consumer pressure surrounding Black Friday.
- For another Christmas romance: Meet Me Next Christmas offers a music-centered holiday setup and remained on the chart in its third week.
- For the least assumptive identification: Check Netflix’s artwork and title page before selecting The Hunt, since more than one film uses that title.
What about The Piano Lesson?
The Piano Lesson was one of the notable November Netflix film releases, but it did not appear in this particular global English-language Films Top 10 for November 18–24. It should not be added to the ranked list simply because it was a prominent release.
The film is based on August Wilson’s play. Readers interested in comparing the adaptation with its source can read August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson as companion material; that is the original play in book form, not the Netflix movie.
How Netflix’s weekly Top 10 works
- Netflix reports titles in weekly viewing lists rather than presenting this data as one worldwide, real-time daily ranking.
- The relevant list here is Global Top 10 Movies: English for November 18–24, 2024.
- Views are calculated from hours watched divided by runtime, so a “view” is a standardized Netflix metric rather than a claim that every viewer watched the entire film.
- The list includes titles that Netflix licenses as well as Netflix originals.
- Availability and rankings can vary by country, so a viewer may not see every listed film in their local Netflix catalog.
Source and confidence note
Netflix’s official weekly recap provides the strongest support for the first three positions and for Meet Me Next Christmas. The full ten-title ranking and the figures for the lower positions were preserved in contemporaneous chart reporting, including coverage from TheWrap and What’s on Netflix. The final four positions should therefore be treated as medium-confidence historical chart data rather than as a live ranking.

Is this Netflix list specific to the United States or to November 22 only?
No. This is not a real-time worldwide ranking for November 22 or a list of what Americans watched that day. It is Netflix’s global English-language Films Top 10 for the full reporting week of November 18–24, 2024.
How does Netflix calculate movie views?
Netflix calculates views by dividing hours watched by a film’s runtime. The metric is intended to standardize viewing across titles of different lengths and should not be treated as box-office revenue or a measure of critical quality.
Which documentary was most popular on Netflix that week?
Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy ranked No. 6 with 7.1 million views. It was the week’s highest-ranked documentary and examined consumer culture during the period immediately before Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
Was The Piano Lesson one of Netflix’s 10 most popular movies that week?
No. The Piano Lesson was a notable November release, but it did not appear in this specific weekly Top 10. The film is based on August Wilson’s play, which can be read separately as companion material.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Netflix’s global English-language movie leader for the week of November 18–24, 2024 was The Merry Gentlemen, followed by Hot Frosty. The chart was shaped by holiday romances, but it also included family animation, the documentary Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy, a horror-comedy, and several catalog titles.
