The list includes studio releases, tribute-album tracks, a concert performance, and Ozzy Osbourne’s own later live reinterpretations, which are marked as such.
Ten notable covers and reinterpretations
-
Judas Priest — “War Pigs” (2025 studio cover)
Judas Priest released its studio version on July 2, 2025, presenting it as a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath. The band said it was an “homage” to a song it plays at shows and whose words fans sing along to. The choice makes sense: Tony Iommi’s official Paranoid album page identifies “War Pigs” as one of the record’s signature tracks. Judas Priest’s version is a direct salute rather than a radical genre switch. Blabbermouth reported the release date and reproduced the band’s statement.
-
Megadeth — “Paranoid” (tribute-album version)
Megadeth’s version appears in a compiled catalogue of “Paranoid” covers, which identifies it as a tribute-album recording. It is a natural pairing: a thrash-metal band taking on one of Sabbath’s concise, fast-moving songs. The catalogue is a discovery reference, however, and does not establish the precise edition or release date for this recording. Consult the cover catalogue for its listing.
-
The Dickies — “Paranoid” (studio recording)
The Dickies’ punk version is listed on The Incredible Shrinking Dickies. Its appeal lies in the contrast between Sabbath’s original heavy-rock framework and the brisk, compact energy associated with punk. The compiled listing supports the album association, but not a detailed account of the recording or its release history. The catalogue lists the cover and album.

-
Type O Negative — “Paranoid” (recorded version)
Type O Negative’s version is listed on Origin of the Feces. The band’s inclusion makes a useful counterpoint to faster takes: the same familiar song can be reframed through a darker, heavier sensibility. The available listing establishes the association, not the arrangement’s specific instrumentation or recording details. See the compiled version list.
-
Avenged Sevenfold — “Paranoid” (tribute-album version)
Avenged Sevenfold’s cover is listed for the tribute album Covered, A Revolution in Sound. It offers another metal-band reading of a song whose direct structure lends itself to reinterpretation. That underlying simplicity is part of the track’s history: Iommi’s official Paranoid page says the song was written and recorded in under half an hour. The catalogue identifies the tribute-album connection but does not supply a verified release date or detailed arrangement notes. The cover catalogue records the listing.

White Zombie — “Children of the Grave” (tribute-album recording)
White Zombie’s recording is listed as a tribute-album version of “Children of the Grave.” Including it broadens the selection beyond “Paranoid” and shows another route into Sabbath’s catalogue: a later band making a song its own within a heavy, industrial-leaning rock identity. The listing establishes the cover association, while exact edition details are not established here. The compiled catalogue lists the recording.
-
Afroskull — “Rat Salad” (2001 concert performance)
Afroskull’s take comes from a full Black Sabbath covers concert in 2001, rather than a conventional studio single. “Rat Salad,” an instrumental from Paranoid, gives a performing band room to foreground the musicianship rather than a vocal interpretation. A 2010 track-by-track feature documents the performance and places it among stylistically varied approaches to the album. Read the feature’s account of the concert.

Isis — “Hand of Doom” (reinterpretation)
Isis’s version of “Hand of Doom” is another example of a cover that changes the listener’s frame of reference rather than simply reproducing a familiar hit. The track-by-track feature presents it as a reinterpretation of a Paranoid song. It is a strong choice for listeners interested in how Sabbath material can travel into heavier, more expansive territory. The 2010 feature discusses the recording.
-
Bill Patton — “Fairies Wear Boots” (folk-ballad treatment)
Bill Patton’s treatment turns “Fairies Wear Boots” into a folk ballad, a striking stylistic departure from the original’s heavy-rock setting. That shift makes the song’s underlying melody and lyric stand out in a new way. The 2010 feature identifies it as one of the album-track reinterpretations it considers. See the feature’s discussion.

Ozzy Osbourne — “Never Say Die” (live reinterpretation)
Ozzy Osbourne’s live performances of Sabbath material are a different kind of entry: not an unrelated artist covering the band, but the original singer returning to songs from his Sabbath years. His live album Speak of the Devil is associated with performances of “Never Say Die” and “N.I.B.” in the compiled cover catalogue. This list uses “Never Say Die” to represent that live reinterpretation category; the catalogue alone does not establish a specific performance date or edition. The compiled listing records Ozzy’s association with the song.
Why “Paranoid” attracts so many different readings
“Paranoid” is both one of Sabbath’s signature tracks and a notably compact song. Iommi’s official album page says it was written and recorded in under half an hour. That brevity helps explain why performers can take it in sharply different directions without losing its recognizable core. A compiled catalogue lists versions by Megadeth, The Dickies, Type O Negative, Avenged Sevenfold, Hellsongs, and The Dillinger Escape Plan, among others; the list is useful for discovery, but individual release details should be checked against the relevant artist or label credits.
