The ten shows, and who they suit
1. The Pitt
Verdict: The strongest all-round starting point if you want contemporary tension and a rapid “one more episode” rhythm.
This high-pressure medical drama stays inside an overstretched workplace, turning handovers, emergencies and competing personal crises into propulsion. The contained setting makes the ensemble easy to follow while episode endings keep the pressure rising.

- Best for: Viewers who like espionage, covert operations and high-concept crime.
- Watch-out: Its focus is sustained suspense rather than comedy or comfort viewing.
- Availability: Check whether the complete season remains in NOW’s current catch-up window before subscribing.
5. Succession
Verdict: A dependable complete-series binge if you prefer razor-sharp dialogue and escalating family warfare to action.

6. The Last of Us

- Best for: Serious drama viewers comfortable with horror and post-apocalyptic themes.
- Content warning: Violence, bereavement and distressing material.
- Where it fits: It is an HBO series delivered through the Sky/NOW route. Check which seasons are currently licensed: NOW TV series catalogue.

8. Industry

- Watch-out: Financial jargon, sexual content and volatile behaviour can make it demanding viewing.
- Availability: Check whether every season remains included under the current HBO Max/NOW arrangement.
9. Mare of Easttown

A murder investigation unfolds alongside family strain, grief and the pressures of a tightly connected community. The limited-series structure gives the central mystery momentum while allowing the characters to feel fully lived-in.

Which NOW or Sky membership do you need?
The practical choice depends on whether you want flexible box-set access or a broader household television package.
| Option | What it is | Advertised price signal | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NOW Entertainment | Streaming membership focused on Sky Originals, Sky Exclusives and entertainment | £7.99 per month on NOW’s help page; promotional and minimum-term offers differ | Sky-led viewing without a full Sky setup | Rotating catalogue; HBO Max titles may require the higher tier |
| NOW Entertainment & HBO Max | Entertainment plus HBO Max Basic with Ads | £9.99 standard figure on the help page; promotional minimum-term pricing may be lower | Viewers wanting both Sky and HBO programming | Ads on the Basic tier and possible minimum-term offer conditions |
| Sky TV | Broader paid-TV platform with live channels, on-demand content and hardware options | Essential TV advertised from £15 per month for new customers on a 24-month minimum term | Households wanting an integrated television service | Longer commitments and more complicated package comparisons |
Check the current terms on NOW’s membership page and Sky’s package comparison. NOW says Entertainment can be cancelled at any time, while lower advertised Monthly Saver prices can involve a minimum term. Do not treat a “from” price as the normal ongoing cost.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsNOW versus Sky TV: the decision in plain English
Choose NOW for a binge-only plan
- Lower entry barrier than taking a full television package.
- Useful if you want to subscribe for a particular series and then cancel.
- No traditional Sky television setup is required for the membership route.
- Expect catalogue rotation, and check whether the HBO Max tier includes adverts.
- Boost or Ultra Boost may be needed for premium picture quality or additional simultaneous streams.
Choose Sky TV for an integrated household setup
- Live channels and on-demand programmes sit in one television environment.
- Packages can bundle services such as Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max or Hayu, depending on the offer.
- Contracts, hardware and premium-feature charges make comparisons less straightforward.
- Sky says UHD and Dolby Atmos require a separate £6-per-month pack, and not all content is available in UHD or HDR: Sky package details.
Important availability and regional notes
This is a UK guide. Sky and NOW rights are territory-specific, so a US viewer may need Max, HBO or another local distributor rather than NOW UK.
NOW’s entertainment structure changed on 26 March 2026: eligible existing Entertainment members were moved to Entertainment & HBO Max, while new customers can choose between plans. Read the current explanation at NOW’s March 2026 membership update.
Availability and membership requirements were checked on 18 August 2026. A title can leave after that date, and different seasons can have different expiry dates. Check the live title page immediately before subscribing, especially for House of the Dragon, Gangs of London, The Day of the Jackal, The Last of Us and Industry.
Quick Recap
