The best WWE babyfaces did more than play the good guy: they gave fans someone to rally behind, whether through clean-cut heroism, technical skill or defiance of authority. This is an editorial ranking, not an official WWE order. It weighs the prominence and staying power of each performer’s fan-favorite role, audience connection, importance to WWE’s eras, memorable stories and wider cultural reach. WWE’s retrospective lists of its greatest heroes and good guys offer a useful starting point, but do not establish a definitive top ten.
10. Rey Mysterio
Mysterio earns a place for showing that a WWE hero need not be physically imposing or fit a conventional mold. WWE includes him in its retrospective good-guy coverage, supporting his place among the company’s fan-favorite figures. His appeal makes the babyface role feel open to more than one kind of performer.
9. Hulk Hogan
Hogan is another name included in WWE’s heroes and good-guys retrospectives. His place here recognizes his standing as a defining heroic figure in WWE history, while the ranking remains an editorial judgment rather than a claim that WWE’s lists put him at number nine.
8. Bret Hart
Hart’s babyface appeal rested on an earnest, principled presentation rather than an exaggerated superhero persona. WWE describes him as a figure of moral integrity as well as technical skill, a combination that makes his hero character distinctive. WWE’s profile also records five WWE Title reigns, though that accomplishment alone does not determine this ranking.

7. The Undertaker
The Undertaker belongs in a conversation about enduring fan favorites because his appeal did not depend on looking or behaving like a conventional good guy. This ranking places him among the characters whose connection with fans could coexist with a darker presentation. His inclusion reflects that broader definition of a babyface, rather than a claim that every stage of the character was heroic.
6. Shawn Michaels
Michaels represents a more complicated kind of fan favorite: a performer whose appeal could be built on charisma and personal edge rather than spotless virtue. That matters in a ranking of babyfaces because audience allegiance is not the same thing as a character being a moral role model.
5. Randy Savage
Savage’s place recognizes the forceful, larger-than-life form of heroism that can make a wrestling character memorable. A babyface does not have to be gentle or understated; intensity can be part of the connection, provided fans have a reason to invest in the character’s side of a conflict.

4. Bruno Sammartino
Sammartino represents the foundational end of WWE’s heroic tradition. His inclusion broadens the list beyond more recent, widely revisited eras and acknowledges that a history of fan-favorite figures cannot be judged only by contemporary visibility.
3. John Cena
WWE’s retrospective describes Cena’s character through “hustle, loyalty and respect,” and says he personified those virtues after challenging Kurt Angle on the June 27, 2002, edition of SmackDown. That is WWE’s characterization of Cena, not a neutral measurement of how every fan felt about him. For this ranking, the important point is how clearly his heroic identity was articulated and sustained.
2. The Rock
The Rock’s position reflects the scale of his connection with fans and the way a charismatic, self-assured persona can function as a hero without resembling a conventional role model. In a list that considers cultural reach alongside sustained prominence and memorable stories, he is difficult to leave out of the upper tier.
Rank #3
- Fan Favorites! WWE action figures bring Superstars to life in 6-inch scale.
- TrueFX Technology! Each figure is detailed with a life-like face for added collectability.
- Dynamic Posing! Fans can recreate signature moves with 14 points of articulation.
- Play and Display! Reenact favorite WWE Main Event matches or create new rivalries and moves.
- Super Collectible! WWE fans can find their favorite Superstar figures (each sold separately, subject to availability).
1. Stone Cold Steve Austin
Austin tops this ranking because his babyface appeal expanded the definition of the WWE hero. WWE’s retrospective frames him as resisting corporate oppression, despite his rough-edged persona. Rather than asking fans to admire a clean-cut example of good behavior, his character gave them an outsider to side with against authority. That anti-establishment form of heroism differs from Cena’s inspirational virtues or Hart’s moral integrity, but it can be just as compelling.
Why babyface does not mean “perfect good guy”
In wrestling, a babyface is the heroic or fan-favorite side of a story. The role can be played as principled and inspirational, as WWE describes Hart and Cena, or as rebellious and confrontational, as in its account of Austin. The useful question is not whether every action looks virtuous by ordinary standards; it is what makes the audience want that performer to prevail.

The ranking above is therefore a judgment about distinct kinds of audience connection, not a claim that there is one formula for the greatest babyface. WWE’s retrospective lists establish several strong candidates, but they do not supply a scoring system or settle the order.
