What happened to Norme’s livestream?
Know Your Meme reported that YouTuber and Kick streamer Norme began broadcasting on August 2, 2024, in an attempt to break the record for the longest time awake. The same event account says YouTube and Kick took down the stream on August 11, after more than 12 days of streaming. These dates and details come from secondary reporting, not a platform announcement. Know Your Meme’s event entry does not establish why either service removed the broadcast.
Did YouTube or Kick explain the ban?
No confirmed explanation from YouTube or Kick is established by the available account. The stream’s removal can be reported, but it should not be attributed to a specific safety, self-harm, or other policy rationale without a statement from the platforms. The word “banned” in the headline describes the reported takedown; it does not establish a permanent account ban or the platforms’ reasoning.
Was Norme attempting an official Guinness World Record?
No. Guinness World Records stopped monitoring the longest-time-awake category in 1997 because of the dangers of sleep deprivation. In its January 2023 explanation, Guinness identified Robert McDonald’s 453 hours and 40 minutes—18 days, 21 hours and 40 minutes—in 1986 as the last monitored record, and said no one was known to have broken it since. Guinness’s 2023 explanation makes clear that an online attempt is not the same as a record attempt eligible for Guinness monitoring or recognition.

Guinness reiterated its position in a November 18, 2024 article listing titles it no longer monitors as unsafe. The article states: “There are inherent dangers associated with sleep deprivation.” Guinness’s 2024 article does not verify the details of Norme’s stream; it explains why the organization does not monitor this category.
What does health guidance say about sleep?
The CDC’s general guidance recommends that adults aged 18–60 get at least seven hours of sleep daily and advises people experiencing sleep problems to talk with a healthcare provider. CDC sleep guidance is not an assessment of Norme’s health, and the livestream reporting does not provide a basis to diagnose him or infer specific effects.
