Wonderstorm is a television animation and video game studio founded in 2016 by Aaron Ehasz, Justin Richmond, and Justin Santistevan, all of whom had worked at Riot Games. The “new” in the 2017 headline and the game timing reported at launch belong to that launch-era coverage. Wonderstorm’s own pages now describe a working franchise, The Dragon Prince, which has reached seven seasons and has a cooperative game on Netflix Games.
Who founded Wonderstorm and what they did before
Game Developer reported on the studio’s launch on December 1, 2017, saying it had been quietly opened in 2016. The founders brought television and game experience from Riot and beyond, and the headline’s “League of Legends and Uncharted 3” is shorthand for the credits below.
| Founder | Work named in 2017 coverage |
|---|---|
| Aaron Ehasz | Riot Games creative director; co-executive producer and writing showrunner on Avatar: The Last Airbender |
| Justin Richmond | Led a Riot game-development team; directed a Naughty Dog Uncharted game; identified as Wonderstorm’s executive producer by GamesBeat |
| Justin Santistevan | Led finance for Riot’s research and development division |
Background details come from the Game Developer launch report and the GamesBeat launch article.
The founding idea
Launch coverage described a studio combining television animation with video game production. Netflix was attached to an original animated series and to an intended game set in the same world. Game Developer named MWM (formerly Madison Wells Media) as a founding investor, and GamesBeat reported that MWM would executive-produce Wonderstorm projects.
