The design leaned into Wolverine’s famously muscular physique, while Deadpool’s campaign included a billboard in Alberta. Xbox presented the controller as a sweepstakes prize, not as a retail product.
The Wolverine controller was a promotional custom design
In an announcement by Xbox Global Partnerships & Consumer Products general manager Marcos Waltenberg, Xbox said it had moved into production on a Wolverine-inspired controller after unveiling a separate Deadpool design. The joke was built into the shape: the custom controller emphasized Wolverine’s costume and physique. It was a playful collectible concept, not a new controller model with published technical or performance specifications.
Xbox tied the promotion to Deadpool & Wolverine, which was scheduled to reach theaters on July 26, 2024. Waltenberg described Deadpool’s billboard stunt this way: “Deadpool even decided to ‘advertise’ his bromance with Wolverine in the most Deadpool way possible – by slapping up a billboard in Alberta, Canada.” Xbox’s July 22 announcement framed the billboard as a humorous nod to the place where Wolverine first popped his claws.
Where in Alberta was the billboard?
Xbox’s announcement names Alberta but does not specify a city. MobileSyrup reported that Xbox confirmed the billboard was in Edmonton. The city attribution comes from that secondary report; the Xbox announcement independently supports Alberta as the province.

How the original sweepstakes worked
For the 2024 campaign, Xbox invited fans aged 18 and older around the world to find a designated post on Instagram from @Microsoft carrying the hashtag #MicrosoftCheekySweepstakes. That describes the original entry route, not an open or current giveaway. The announcement does not establish that the Wolverine controller was offered for general sale or that it is available through resale channels.
How it differed from the Deadpool promotion
The Wolverine controller followed Xbox’s July 17, 2024 announcement of a custom Deadpool Xbox Wireless Controller sweepstakes. That earlier announcement also described a separate, limited promotion involving a Deadpool-themed Cable Guys controller holder by EXG Pro:

Those were distinct promotional items and terms; the holder offer does not indicate that the Wolverine controller was a retail product. Xbox’s Deadpool announcement documents that earlier campaign.
