Co-host Sunny Hostin also responded in the same segment. This is a dated account of a 2024 exchange, not a current development.
Background: the Harris interview that triggered the attack
On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, The View interviewed then-Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump’s rally remarks the following day were a response to that interview and to the hosts who conducted it.
What Trump said at the Pennsylvania rallies on October 9
At rallies in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Trump criticized The View and singled out two co-hosts. According to The Associated Press, he called Sunny Hostin “dumber than Kamala” and described Goldberg as “demented.” His remarks about Goldberg’s comedy work were the most widely repeated:
“She was so filthy, dirty, disgusting. She was so dirty. Every word was filthy, dirty. What a loser she is.”

The AP’s reporting on that day also covered the rallies in the context of other campaign news, but the insults directed at the show’s hosts were the specific material that prompted the next day’s on-air response.
Goldberg’s response on the October 10 broadcast
On Thursday, October 10, 2024, The View opened its segment with Christina Aguilera’s song “Dirty,” and Goldberg said that “dirty” was one of the words Trump had used about her. Her response had four main elements.

- She accepted the label. Goldberg acknowledged that her comedy was “filthy” and said she stood by that: “I was filthy and stand on that fact. I have always been filthy. And you knew that when you hired me.”
- She put the hiring on Trump. She said Trump had hired her four times: “You hired me four times.”
- She went on the attack. Her pointed question to Trump was “How dumb are you?”
- She referenced his casino. Goldberg said she had headlined at Trump’s casino and might have kept performing there “had you not run it into the ground.”
The casino remark is Goldberg’s own characterization of the business, delivered as a retort on air. It is not an independently established finding about the casino’s finances, and it should be read as her opinion.
Sunny Hostin’s response in the same segment
Hostin answered in the same segment with a sarcastic reply aimed directly at Trump. She said: “Donald Trump, I want to thank you for personally telling so many lies and committing so many alleged crimes and providing us with material on a daily basis.” She spoke from her background as a former prosecutor and legal analyst, which framed the remark as a jab at the candidate’s legal troubles rather than a personal insult.

What is attributed, what is verified, and what is not
Most of the exchange rests on quotations recorded in contemporaneous coverage and a transcript of the segment, but the claims differ in how firmly they are established. The table separates them by speaker, setting, and evidentiary status.

Two points follow from the table. First, the “four times” figure and the casino reference rest on Goldberg’s word, and the reporting that repeated them did not separately confirm each booking. Second, the rally quotations are as reported by The Associated Press, and no official full video of the rally or official ABC transcript of the broadcast was located for this account. Readers who want to check the wording should compare the AP’s report with a transcript of the segment, which was posted on Dailymotion under The Independent’s channel.
