On the November 13, 2024 episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg told her co-hosts, “I like to be eaten from time to time,” while a large Parmigiano Reggiano wheel bearing her face sat on the set. The line was a deliberate double entendre, and it got a big laugh from the studio audience.
The setting: a birthday segment built around favorite things
The moment came during a “favorite things” segment on the episode that marked Goldberg’s 69th birthday. The show had arranged a wheel of cheese with her image on it, so the joke was built into the prop before anyone spoke. Coverage of the broadcast describes the wheel as the centerpiece of the segment, and the cheese, not the birthday itself, is what made the remark land.
How the exchange unfolded

The quotes and how much weight they can bear
The three lines most often repeated in coverage are Goldberg’s “I like to be eaten from time to time,” Haines’s “I always wanted my face on cheese,” and Goldberg’s product description, which begins with “this is a wheel of authentic Parmigiano Reggiano from Italy.” These sentences come from reported on-air dialogue as relayed by Us Weekly, which gave the most detailed account of the segment. TMZ’s November 13 report describes the same exchange and Haines’s reaction, and it references an ABC video of the segment. That video was not checked against the broadcast for this article, and no official transcript of the episode was located. If you need the exact wording for quotation in a formal setting, treat these lines as attributed to press coverage of the broadcast rather than to a verified transcript.

What the cheese detail does and does not establish
The “24 months” figure is a product detail that Goldberg stated on air. It describes the age of that particular wheel and is not a statistic about cheese generally or about the show’s audience. The same goes for the blocks given to the audience: they were part of the taping, and reporting does not establish that the custom wheel or the giveaway blocks are sold to the public. Availability was not verified, so do not assume either can be bought. If you are looking for the cheese itself, Parmigiano Reggiano is the actual product named on air; the custom wheel is not established as a purchasable item.
