The available reporting does not verify the on-air collapses suggested by this headline. One prominent viral clip purporting to show Whoopi Goldberg walking off The View after an encounter with Karoline Leavitt was AI-generated, according to a February 25, 2025 fact check by Lead Stories. A separate, documented absence in May 2025 was attributed on air to a cold—not a collapse.
What is established about the alleged collapses?
The sources available here do not establish that Goldberg collapsed during a broadcast of The View. No dated episode, authenticated footage, or contemporaneous official explanation documenting such an event is identified. That is a limit on what can responsibly be reported; it is not proof that no incident could ever have occurred.
The key distinction is between a verified broadcast event and a claim circulating online. Without a specific date and reliable original footage, an image or clip cannot substantiate either a collapse or a medical explanation for what it appears to show.
What happened with the viral Leavitt video?
Lead Stories reported on February 25, 2025 that a viral video purporting to show Goldberg and then-White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt together on The View, followed by Goldberg walking off, was AI-generated. The fact check cited mismatched split-screen imagery and other visual artifacts; it also reported that Leavitt had not appeared on the program. The clip is therefore not evidence of a real walk-off or collapse.

What does the May 2025 absence tell us?
TV Insider reported on May 15, 2025 that Goldberg returned to the panel after a one-day absence and explained on air that she had a cold. This account concerns that specific absence. It does not describe a collapse or establish any other health condition. The report paraphrases and quotes her remarks; it is not an official transcript: TV Insider’s May 15 report.

What official and career records can—and cannot—confirm
ABC/Disney’s August 30, 2024 announcement for season 28 lists Goldberg among the returning co-hosts. That confirms her program role at that point, but a cast announcement cannot verify or disprove a particular incident: ABC/Disney’s season 28 announcement.
A May 5, 2024 CBS Sunday Morning page features an interview about Goldberg’s memoir and career, including The View. It provides background, not evidence about an on-air collapse: CBS News’ interview page.

How to assess a future claim
Before treating a clip or post as proof of an on-air emergency, look for the broadcast it claims to show and check whether the footage is complete and authenticated. Keep the visible event separate from any medical interpretation.
- Identify the broadcast date and episode rather than relying on a caption or repost.
- Look for continuous original footage, not an isolated or edited clip.
- Check for a contemporaneous explanation from the show, Goldberg, or an official representative.
- Do not infer a diagnosis from appearance or movement alone.
For the Leavitt walk-off video, the dated fact check identifies the clip as AI-generated; for the May 2025 absence, the reported explanation was a cold. Neither supports describing an on-air collapse as verified.
