Their combined total of 48/60 was the lowest in the recap coverage, and the elimination was decided by judges’ scores together with live viewer votes.
How the 500th episode was structured
The milestone broadcast ran in two rounds. In the first, couples reinterpreted memorable routines from earlier seasons, and judges scored each performance out of 30. The second round was an Instant Dance Challenge, in which each dancer learned an assigned style and song only about five minutes before going live.

The Disney/ABC press release dated October 31, 2024, announced the format and said that live viewer votes would be combined with judges’ scores to determine which couples were in jeopardy. That combination is the key to reading the result, as discussed below.
According to the Forbes episode recap, the opening number used Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love,” the song that opened the series premiere in 2005. The number featured the season’s professional dancers, judge Derek Hough, co-host Julianne Hough, and Season 27 champion Sharna Burgess.

Scores and the elimination
Each total below is out of 60 and adds the first-round judges’ score to the Instant Dance score.
| Couple | First dance | Judges’ score | Instant dance | Instant score | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson | Contemporary | 28/30 | Rumba | 27/30 | 55/60 |
| Danny Amendola and Witney Carson | Quickstep | 27/30 | Jive | 24/30 | 51/60 |
| Dwight Howard and Daniella Karagach | Argentine Tango | 26/30 | Paso Doble | 22/30 | 48/60 |
| Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold | Viennese Waltz | 29/30 | Jive | 25/30 | 54/60 |
| Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong | Argentine Tango | 30/30 | Cha-cha | 30/30 | 60/60 |
| Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten | Quickstep | 28/30 | Salsa | 24/30 | 52/60 |
Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong were the only couple in the table to finish at 60/60, earning 30/30 in both rounds. Howard and Karagach had the lowest total at 48/60, after 26/30 for their Argentine Tango and 22/30 for the Paso Doble. The Forbes recap reports that their combined result, judges’ scores plus viewer votes, was the lowest, and a TVLine recap is consistent with that account.

Why the scores alone do not settle the outcome
The table shows only the judges’ side of the ranking. The recap coverage does not publish the live viewer vote totals, so the table cannot show how much the vote moved the order or whether a different vote split would have changed who went home. A couple can sit low on judges’ scores and still be safe if viewer support is strong, which is exactly why the two inputs need to be read together rather than from the table alone.
What the couple said afterward
In the Forbes recap, Howard responded when co-host Julianne Hough asked about his experience: “I had an amazing experience. Daniella is an amazing partner. I’m glad that she was here for me. The show meant so much.”

Karagach, his partner, said: “You know, a lot of people said he couldn’t do it, and we did it. For me, that’s a win.”
