Morgane Stapleton is the singer most often identified as Chris Stapleton’s backing vocalist. She is his wife, and she appears in his live band’s sound as a harmony voice. Two published sources give the clearest picture of her role, and they are separated by a decade, so it helps to read them together.

Live harmony
The 2015 Washington Post profile places Morgane within the touring band from the start of his solo career. Its description of the band is the earliest published statement of her role in this coverage, and it is the basis for calling her a regular live harmony singer rather than an occasional guest.
Role on the records
ABC News, writing in March 2025 in connection with Stapleton’s first Australian tour, goes further. It presents her as a creative contributor to his albums, not just a performer on stage. The same article describes a Stapleton concert as “very much a band affair,” which is a useful reminder that she is one part of a larger group rather than the whole act.

Song selection on Traveller
The Washington Post reported that Stapleton relied on her when choosing songs for Traveller. That is the most specific account of her involvement in a single album in the available coverage. Mercury Nashville’s official artist page identifies Traveller as Stapleton’s solo debut, which fixes the album’s place in his career.
What is not established
- A single backing singer for every show. The sources describe a recurring role, not a fixed roster across all dates.
- Personnel for specific recordings. Neither source names every vocalist or musician on each album.
- A count of her studio contributions. ABC says she has been key to “so many” records, without listing them.
Because of these gaps, “Morgane Stapleton frequently sings harmony at his live shows” is a safer statement than “Morgane is the only backing vocalist.”

How to confirm who is singing at a specific show
- Find the date on the official Chris Stapleton website, which announces tour dates.
- Check whether the show has official video, a broadcast, or a recording that lists the performers.
- For a studio album, read the credits on the release itself rather than relying on a general profile.
- If a show is not documented, treat any lineup claim as unverified and say so.
The short answer
For the question as most people ask it, the answer is Morgane Stapleton. She is Chris Stapleton’s wife, a regular harmony singer in his live band, and a contributor to his work since Traveller. Verify any specific concert or recording before naming additional performers.
