The July 4–6, 2025 weekend’s headline streaming picks for U.S. viewers were The Old Guard 2 on Netflix, Sinners on Max, and Heads of State on Prime Video, according to TechRadar’s July 4, 2025 weekend guide. Axios’s July 3, 2025 roundup widened the list across Prime Video, Max, Disney+, Paramount+ and Netflix, adding documentaries, sports programming and a returning series. This guide covers both lists, flags where availability differed by country, and notes which titles were documentaries or sports-focused, since those are the most likely to matter to documentary viewers.
Everything below describes a historical weekend. Catalogs, licensing and plan terms have changed since July 2025, so treat each entry as a record of what the guides listed at the time, and confirm a title’s current status on the service before you subscribe.
The weekend at a glance
The two roundups overlap on only some titles, so it helps to see them side by side. The table below lists every title named in the coverage, with the service, the format where the coverage described it, and the timing or territory note that was attached to it.

The three anchor picks
The Old Guard 2 (Netflix)
This is an action sequel built around immortal warriors. TechRadar highlights its action sequences, and Axios gives the core returning-character setup for readers who did not see the first film. It was the most prominent new Netflix film on the weekend list.
#1 Best Overall

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Sinners (Max)
Ryan Coogler’s supernatural horror period film stars Michael B. Jordan. TechRadar placed it on Max for its U.S.-oriented guide and warned that UK viewers would have to wait longer to stream it. That caveat is the clearest example in the coverage of a title being available in one territory and not yet in another. TechRadar’s page also cited a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score at publication; scores move over time, so that figure describes July 2025 only.
Heads of State (Prime Video)
This is a buddy action comedy in which John Cena and Idris Elba play the U.S. and U.K. leaders. Axios also names Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Jack Quaid in the cast. Amazon’s U.S. July schedule dates the premiere to July 2, which places it just before the holiday weekend rather than on it.

Series and split releases
Most weekend guides treat a series as a single entry, but The Sandman season 2 was released in two parts. Six episodes were available during the guide’s timeframe, and the remaining five were scheduled for July 24, 2025, which completed the season. If you planned to binge the season over the holiday, you would have had to wait three weeks for the finale.
Documentaries and sports titles
The coverage was lighter on documentaries than on films, but several entries are relevant to documentary viewers:

- Dear Ms.: A Revolution in Print (Max). Axios’s July 3, 2025 roundup lists it as a Max pick. The coverage does not describe its format, so check the Max title page before assuming it is a documentary.
- Shark Whisperer and All the Sharks (Netflix). Both appear in Axios’s roundup under Netflix’s new releases. All the Sharks is a competition in which teams compete for a donation to a marine charity selected by each team. Axios reported the prize donation as $50,000, as stated in its July 3, 2025 coverage; the figure is a prize for that season and does not represent a recurring payment.
- Countdown: Taylor vs. Serrano (Netflix). Listed in Axios’s roundup as sports programming tied to the fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.
- Tour de France: Unchained season 3 (Netflix). Axios listed this returning sports series in its July 3 roundup.
TechRadar’s July 4 headline framed the weekend as an Independence Day movie showcase. Its reporter, Tom Power, wrote: “Four big new movies have graced some of the world’s best streaming services ahead of this weekend (July 4 to 6).” Most of the documentary and sports entries above came from Axios rather than TechRadar, so the Axios roundup is the better list to check for non-fiction titles.

- U.S. guides are not global guides. TechRadar’s guide was U.S.-oriented. Sinners’s UK wait is the explicit example, and other titles may have followed different rollout schedules outside the U.S.
- Japan’s list differs. Amazon’s July schedule for Japan names a different group of Prime Video titles for July 4. Those are Japan-market releases, not U.S. ones.
- Plans and prices are not part of this guide. The coverage did not establish current subscription costs, and any price you see in old guides is out of date.
To verify a 2025 title today, search its name on the service it was listed on, check the region selector or country setting in the app, and confirm whether the title is still in the catalog. Catalogs rotate, so an earlier listing does not guarantee current availability.
