In a July 25, 2024 interview, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said he was excited for audiences to see how the story relates to the history of the Fox and X-Men characters. The comment supports reading the film as an engagement with that legacy, not as a promise that every earlier plot point will be reconciled into one seamless timeline.
Why is its history called “troubled”?
“Troubled” is best understood as a description of continuity complexity, not a claim that Marvel has published a single definitive account of every event in this reality. Earth-10005 is used to group a long-running Fox-era film legacy, while Deadpool & Wolverine places that legacy inside a multiverse story. Different films and branches can therefore be discussed under the same broad label without implying that every detail fits a clean master sequence.

Director Shawn Levy described the movie as “a story about two people trying to make their way in the Multiverse” and called it “a real odd couple, buddy cop movie” in a July 25, 2024 interview with The Walt Disney Company. That framing points readers toward the film’s character-driven premise: the multiverse is the setting for Wade and Wolverine’s story, rather than an assurance that the franchise’s entire history has been tidied up.
