In July 2019, Wendy Williams shared a photo of herself using a pneumatic compression system for lymphedema. Contemporary reports identified the device as a Flexitouch Plus system with leg wraps; the post described a 45-minute daily session. It is a dated account, not an update on Williams’s health or treatment today.
What was Wendy Williams using in the photo?
Women’s Health and Prevention reported on July 17, 2019, that Williams posted a photo reclining on a couch with compression wraps on her legs, connected to a Flexitouch Plus pneumatic compression system. The reports quoted her caption: “Just Wendy with lymphedema machine. 45min every day. #lymphedema#flexitouch #gethelp.” She also joked that the machine was “the best party entertainer ever.” Women’s Health’s 2019 report reproduced those remarks; the original social-media post was not independently verified in the available coverage.
In the same reporting, Williams said, “I’ve got it under control. If [the swelling] in my feet never goes all the way down, at least I have this machine.” Those are her statements as quoted by the outlet, not a clinician’s assessment. The reports do not establish the cause of her lymphedema, and the pictured treatment does not establish her present health or routine. Current availability or model status for the named system is also not established by that coverage.
What is lymphedema?
Lymphedema is swelling that occurs when lymph fluid builds up in body tissues because the lymphatic system is impaired. It commonly affects an arm or leg. Possible causes include cancer or its treatment, infection, scar tissue after radiation or lymph-node surgery, and inherited conditions. The photo coverage does not say what caused Williams’s condition. The NHS overview of lymphoedema and the CDC’s lymphedema guidance describe the condition and its management.

How is lymphedema managed?
Care is individualized. The NHS describes decongestive lymphatic therapy as a combination of measures intended to help control symptoms, rather than cure lymphedema.
Compression
Compression bandages or garments, such as sleeves or stockings, can be part of care. A pneumatic pump is another option listed by the CDC: it applies intermittent pressure through an inflatable garment. A device shown in one person’s photo is not a recommendation or proof that the same device is appropriate for someone else. Garment fit and treatment suitability should be discussed with a qualified clinician.

Manual lymphatic drainage is a specialized form of massage included in the NHS approach. It is one part of a broader treatment plan, not interchangeable with compression or a pump.

What the photo can—and cannot—tell you
- It can tell you: 2019 media reports described Williams using a pneumatic compression system with leg wraps and quoted her as saying she used it for 45 minutes daily.
