In Netflix’s Wednesday, Morticia Addams is Wednesday’s mother, Gomez Addams’s wife, and a former Nevermore student played by Catherine Zeta-Jones. The series connects psychic abilities to the Addams family, but its official material does not give a precise inventory of Morticia’s individual powers. Wednesday’s abilities, by contrast, are described directly.
Who is Morticia Addams in Wednesday?
Morticia is the Addams family matriarch and Wednesday’s mother. Netflix’s Season 2 cast guide describes her as “the definition of spooky glamour” and identifies Catherine Zeta-Jones as her actor.
Morticia and Gomez met and fell in love while they were students at Nevermore Academy. In Season 2, Morticia returns to the academy grounds in a philanthropic role, bringing her into closer contact with Wednesday.
What abilities does Morticia have?
Netflix’s official material associates psychic ability with the Addams family, but it does not spell out exactly what Morticia herself can do. The distinction matters: family connection is not the same as a confirmed list of personal powers, and the sources do not establish that Morticia’s abilities work just like Wednesday’s.

Netflix’s Season 1 character guide describes Wednesday as having “burgeoning psychic abilities.” A September 8, 2025 feature about the Addams women and psychic abilities says that psychic abilities run in the family. Taken together, those statements support the family connection, not a detailed account of Morticia’s powers.
How do Morticia’s abilities compare with Wednesday’s?
The series gives more specific information about Wednesday’s psychic experiences than Morticia’s. In Season 2, Morticia learns that Wednesday is suffering from “psychic exhaustion” after trying to use her supernatural abilities to save Enid. This is information about Wednesday’s condition, not evidence of a particular power belonging to Morticia.

Wednesday is also using an ancient book of spells belonging to Goody Addams. Morticia wants her to hand it over, while Wednesday resists because she considers it an asset in her mission. The conflict concerns Wednesday’s choices and the book; it does not establish that Morticia uses the book or shares Wednesday’s abilities.
What is Morticia’s relationship with Wednesday?
Their relationship combines affection, encouragement, disagreement, and tension. Zeta-Jones described it in Netflix Tudum’s September 8, 2025 feature this way: “Wednesday and Morticia’s relationship is beautiful. It’s encouraging. It’s contentious. It’s fraught.”

Season 2 makes that tension concrete through Wednesday’s autonomy, her psychic exhaustion, and Morticia’s concern about the book of spells. Their disagreements sit alongside moments of recognition and respect.

Morticia’s history at Nevermore links the family to the academy before Wednesday’s own time there: Morticia and Gomez were both students. Her return to campus in a philanthropic role gives her a new place in the school’s present-day story.
