The statement defended the brand’s online style, but it did not apologize in the wording reported by news outlets.
What did Wendy’s say about Katy Perry?
Wendy’s statement, given to Rolling Stone on April 17, 2025, was reported with slightly different wording by different outlets. Inside Edition quoted it as: “We always bring a little spice to our socials, but Wendy’s has a ton of respect for Katy Perry.” (Inside Edition)

Parade reported a longer version: “We always bring a little spice to our socials, but Wendy’s has a ton of respect for Katy Perry and her out-of-this-world talent.” (Parade) The Independent also reported the longer wording. (The Independent)
Because the published versions differ, the added phrase about Perry’s “out-of-this-world talent” should be attributed to the longer versions rather than treated as wording reproduced identically by every outlet.

What prompted the statement?
Perry flew on a Blue Origin mission on April 14, 2025, according to Parade. After her return, Wendy’s official X account replied to a post about the flight with “Can we send her back,” The Independent reported. The outlet also reported a second post: “When we said women in stem this isn’t what we meant.” (The Independent)
Wendy’s issued its statement on April 17, as reported by Parade; Inside Edition and Parade published their accounts on April 18. The posts’ wording and the flight provide the context for the response, but the available accounts do not establish Wendy’s internal reasoning or identify a named spokesperson.

Was it an apology?
No apology appears in the quoted statement. Parade and The Independent characterized Wendy’s response as stopping short of an apology. Instead, the company described its social-media tone as “a little spice” and expressed respect for Perry. That distinction matters: the statement addressed the criticism, but its reported wording did not say sorry or retract either post.
