Travis Kelce’s reported reaction to Taylor Swift thanking him at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards was to like MTV’s Instagram video of her speech. He was not at the ceremony, and contemporary reports did not quote a separate public statement from him about the shoutout.
What Taylor Swift said about Travis Kelce
Swift thanked Kelce while accepting Video of the Year for “Fortnight,” her collaboration with Post Malone, at the September 11, 2024 VMAs. She recalled hearing someone cheer from across the studio while the music video was being filmed, then identified him as her boyfriend, Travis. She also credited him with bringing “happiness, fun, and magic” to the shoot. MTV’s official video of the speech captures the moment.

How Kelce reacted—and what is confirmed
The Independent and Sporting News reported on September 12 that Kelce liked MTV’s Instagram video of Swift’s speech. That social-media like is the reported response; neither outlet established a separate written or spoken statement from him reacting to being thanked.
Why Kelce was not at the VMAs
Kelce missed the September 11 ceremony because he was at Kansas City Chiefs practice in Missouri ahead of the team’s September 15 game against Cincinnati, according to The Independent. His absence means the shoutout happened while Swift was onstage and Kelce was away from the awards show.

- The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways, and it fills me with such excitement to announce that my version of it will be out October 27th
Keep his pre-show comments separate
Before the VMAs, Kelce had spoken on the “New Heights” podcast about hoping Swift would win. Those comments came before her acceptance speech, so they are not a reaction to her thanking him.
