What happens in “He Who Comes With The Dawn”?
Released on April 17, 2025, the season-three finale brings several storylines to a turning point while opening new ones. Its most startling weapon is balefire, used in Tanchico; its most public turning point is Rand’s declaration to the Aiel. Meanwhile, Mat enters a strange otherworld, and Moiraine’s fight with Lanfear ends without either woman dying.
The episode’s title, “He Who Comes With The Dawn,” belongs to the Aiel prophecy and the identity Rand claims. In front of the gathered Aiel, he proclaims himself Car’a’carn. TheWrap describes the moment as another step toward madness for Rand, rather than a simple, uncomplicated victory. TheWrap’s finale interview with showrunner Rafe Judkins discusses the adaptation’s trajectory and its changes from the novels.
Who dies in the season 3 finale?
The finale kills Siuan Sanche and Melindhra, among other characters. These are events in the television series; they should not be taken as a guide to the books’ continuity. TheWrap’s account of the finale discusses the deaths and the show’s larger departures from the novels. Read TheWrap’s interview with Judkins.

Why does Elayne use balefire?
In Tanchico, Elayne uses balefire to save Thom from Jeaine. TechRadar identifies this as the first time balefire appears in the television adaptation. The scene gives viewers a vivid introduction to the weapon’s fictional effect, but it arrives with little explanation. Ars Technica argues that the moment could have used more preamble; that is the reviewer’s judgment, not a settled flaw in the episode. Ars Technica’s recap discusses the sequence and the books’ more extensive use of balefire.
Are Moiraine and Lanfear dead?
No. They both survive their duel, though TechRadar says each bears new scars afterward. The encounter ends their immediate fight, not the broader conflict between them. TechRadar’s ending explainer covers the duel and the finale’s other unresolved threads.

What does Rand’s Car’a’carn claim mean for the Aiel?
Rand proclaims himself Car’a’carn before the gathered Aiel, stepping into the role associated with their prophecy. The declaration is a public claim to leadership and identity, not merely a private discovery. TheWrap frames the moment alongside Rand’s growing instability, giving the scene a double edge: he gains recognition while the consequences of his power and path remain troubling. Judkins told TheWrap, “This is the point in the books where they became an explosive worldwide success.” That is his description of the novels’ history, not a measure of the television series’ audience.
What is the creature Mat meets?
Mat enters through a twisted redstone doorframe and encounters the Eelfinn, fox-like beings from another realm. In the series’ fictional lore, the Eelfinn can grant wishes, but their gifts come at a price. The finale establishes the encounter and its danger without resolving what Mat’s bargain or contact will mean for him. TechRadar’s explainer also describes the doorway and the beings Mat meets.

How does season 3 differ from the books?
Amazon identifies season three as an adaptation of Robert Jordan’s fourth novel, The Shadow Rising (1992). The TV series does not reproduce the book’s continuity exactly: the finale’s deaths and the way its storylines are arranged belong to the show. For readers who want to compare the adaptation with its source, Amazon’s guide to the novels and series identifies the book behind the season. Judkins told TheWrap, “You want shows to get better as you go,” describing an ambition rather than an independently verified verdict on the series.
Amazon’s guide says the Wheel of Time saga consists of 14 volumes and one prequel, published from 1990 to 2013. Brandon Sanderson helped complete the final three books after Jordan died in 2007. The series was available to stream on Prime Video when Amazon published its March 2025 viewing guide. Amazon’s guide explains how to watch.

Will there be a season 4?
No. TechRadar reported that Amazon canceled the series after three seasons, with confirmation on May 23, 2025. That leaves the finale’s newly opened storylines without a season-four continuation. In the same 2025 report, TechRadar listed Rotten Tomatoes critic ratings of 97% for season three, 86% for season two and 81% for season one; those are the figures it reported at the time, not a current live snapshot.
