Spoilers for the Peacemaker season 2 finale. Chris Smith ends the season imprisoned on Salvation, a world Rick Flag Sr. plans to turn into a prison for metahumans. The finale also launches Checkmate and points toward a wider DCU story involving Chris, government policy, and Flag’s partnership with Lex Luthor. Brainiac is the confirmed villain of Man of Tomorrow, but no confirmed link puts him on Salvation.
What happens at the end of Peacemaker season 2?
In “Full Nelson,” Chris gives Rick Flag Sr. the Quantum Unfolding Chamber and allows the police to take him into custody, hoping to protect his friends. The 11th Street Kids bail him out and help him recognize that he is not solely responsible for the tragedies in his life.
While Chris and his allies regroup, Flag and A.R.G.U.S. work with associates of Lex Luthor to explore other dimensions. Flag names a habitable world Salvation and reveals his plan to use it as a prison for metahumans. A.R.G.U.S. then abducts Chris. Flag says Chris volunteered for an experiment and presents a falsified signature, but his real motive is revenge for Chris killing Rick Flag Jr. Chris becomes Salvation’s first prisoner. The finale ends with the sound of unseen animals, leaving the world’s dangers unresolved.
What is Salvation, and what does “Salvation Run” mean?
Salvation draws on the name and broad premise of DC’s limited series Salvation Run, a tie-in to Final Crisis. In the comic, Amanda Waller and the Suicide Squad send villains to a remote planet. The exiles eventually discover that New Gods and DeSaad’s forces rule it. TheWrap’s finale explainer discusses those comic parallels.

The TV series has established the shared idea of a remote world used to imprison villains or metahumans, not a scene-for-scene adaptation. TV Insider reports that James Gunn treats comic-book material as a source of concepts rather than a requirement for strict fidelity. The creatures heard in the finale are not identified, and the show has not established that the comic’s rulers or events will appear.
| Element | What the comic establishes | What the finale establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Prison-world premise | Salvation Run sends villains to a remote planet. | Flag names a habitable world Salvation and intends it as a metahuman prison. |
| Who sends prisoners | Amanda Waller and the Suicide Squad send the exiles. | A.R.G.U.S. abducts Chris; Flag claims he volunteered, using a falsified signature. |
| World’s threats and rulers | The exiles encounter New Gods and DeSaad’s forces. | Unseen animals are heard, but their identity and the planet’s rulers are not revealed. |
How does the finale set up Man of Tomorrow?
Gunn’s post-finale comments, reported by GamesRadar+, connect three threads to the larger future story: Chris’s situation at the end of the season, the government’s treatment of metahumans, and Rick Flag Sr. and Lex Luthor’s partnership. These are established as continuing story elements, not proof that every thread will be resolved in Man of Tomorrow.

Leota Adebayo, Chris, Emilia Harcourt, Vigilante, John Economos, Sasha Bordeaux, Judo Master, and Langston Fleury form Checkmate. Gunn told TV Insider: “You’ll definitely see Checkmate carrying through. They’re a thing now, so they’re a part of what’s gonna happen, and I think they’re gonna be really, really good at what they do.” The finale therefore gives the group a place in future DCU stories, even as Chris is separated from them.
