Spoilers for X-Men ’97 Season 1, Episode 5, “Remember It,” and later series continuity. Gambit is the one death clearly shown in the episode: a Sentinel fatally stabs him, and he sacrifices himself to destroy it. Rogue says she cannot feel him. The attack on Genosha causes mass casualties, but the available episode account does not establish a complete list of named victims or an exact death toll. Gambit is later resurrected by the Season 2 finale, so he dies in this episode but is not still dead in current series continuity.
Who dies in “Remember It”?
Gambit
Gambit’s death is the episode’s defining loss. During the Sentinel attack on Genosha, a Sentinel tendril stabs him. He then charges the Sentinel and destroys it with an explosive use of his powers. Afterward, Rogue says she cannot feel him. The scene presents his sacrifice as a death, not merely an injury or disappearance. ComicBook.com’s episode recap describes the sequence.
That answer changes if the question is about the series’ later continuity rather than Episode 5 alone: Gambit has been resurrected by the Season 2 finale. GamesRadar+’s Season 2 finale explanation discusses his return. The precise answer is therefore that Gambit dies in “Remember It,” but is later brought back.
Are Magneto, the Morlocks, or Madelyne Pryor confirmed dead?
No. Their fates in the episode’s attack should not be presented as confirmed deaths based on the available episode account.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Magneto: He tries to protect the Morlocks as the Sentinel attacks, then disappears from view with them. That does not establish that he dies in Episode 5.
- The Morlocks: Their disappearance during the attack is not confirmation that every Morlock shown or implied to be there was killed.
- Madelyne Pryor: She is struck by the psychic attack, but the reported sequence has Cable greet her and warn of the attack. It does not establish her death.
These character actions and uncertainties are covered in the episode recap. A cutaway, psychic strike, or disappearance during a chaotic attack is not enough on its own to label a character dead.
How many people die in the Genosha attack?
The attack causes mass casualties, but no dependable episode-specific death count or exhaustive roster of named victims is established by the cited episode account. One tertiary character-list result names Squid-Boy as a Sentinel victim, but that is weaker evidence than the episode recap and does not support treating him as a definitively verified named death in a complete tally. The character-list entry should be read with that limitation in mind.

Do not confuse the episode’s toll with the number associated with its comic inspiration. Marvel’s listing for New X-Men Modern Era Epic Collection: E Is for Extinction uses “Sixteen million mutants dead” in describing the comic storyline. That figure belongs to the comic description, not to “Remember It.”
Why does the episode’s loss feel so consequential?
“Remember It” sets a public celebration against a sudden attack. Disney+ identifies it as Season 1, Episode 5, and its synopsis places selected X-Men on Genosha as the island prepares to join the United Nations and the team is honored there. Disney+’s series page lists the episode and currently displays two seasons.

Director Emi Yonemura described the approach to the episode’s tragedy this way: “we never wanted it to feel like it was death for death’s sake.” The interview also attributes to Yonemura the goal of making the emotional impact feel earned; that is production perspective, not evidence for additional deaths. The Wild Sentinel attack on Genosha is a shared reference point between the series and the comics. Marvel’s E Is for Extinction collection describes the Wild Sentinels’ first strike on Genosha, making it relevant background reading, but it is not an exact adaptation of this episode. Marvel’s collection listing provides details on the comic edition.
