What is IT: Welcome to Derry about?
HBO describes the series as set in Stephen King’s IT universe, based on his novel, and expanding the vision established by Andy Muschietti’s films IT and IT Chapter Two. That is the official spoiler-light premise. HBO’s published logline does not give a detailed first-season synopsis or outline character arcs, so more specific claims about the season’s story are not established by that description.
The television series connects the novel and the films at the level of franchise world and creative vision; HBO’s wording does not say that it directly retells a particular scene from either movie.

Is there a season 2, and when will it come out?
HBO announced a second-season renewal in August 2026. The announced premise moves the story to 1935, during the Great Depression, and centers on the Bradley Gang, bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammunition and encounter a horror. HBO did not announce a season-two premiere date in its renewal statement.
The season-two premise is distinct from the broad first-season logline: it is the specific story setting HBO announced for the renewed season, not a fuller explanation of season one. HBO’s Spain pressroom renewal announcement gives the 1935 premise. It also reports that the series ranked among HBO Max’s top four global series launches in platform history, without publishing an underlying viewing figure or measurement method.
