Spoilers for the Season 2 finale: Crystal is revealed as the killer targeting sex offenders across Georgia, and Will arrests Angie after uncovering her role in the Lenny Broussard cover-up. The finale leaves Will gone, Angie’s future uncertain, and several personal and professional threads ready to carry into Season 3. Here are ten reminders that put the cliffhanger and the next season’s setup in context.
1. Crystal is the serial killer
The Season 2 finale reveals that Crystal has been targeting sex offenders across Georgia. That answer reframes the mystery and puts Angie’s relationship with Crystal at the center of the closing crisis.
2. Angie concealed how close she was to Crystal
Angie had developed a relationship with Crystal but concealed that connection. Showrunner Liz Heldens said Angie believed she was trying to keep Crystal from having her life ruined. Angie also withholds from Will that Crystal killed Lenny Broussard.
3. Crystal dies after fleeing Angie
Angie confronts Crystal, who runs and falls head-first onto a rock. Crystal dies from the fall. The scene does not establish that Angie deliberately killed her.

4. Will works out the truth about Lenny
Angie tells Will and Faith about her connection to Crystal, but stops short of naming Crystal as Lenny’s killer. Will deduces what happened, and Crystal’s mother confirms it.
5. Will arrests Angie despite their relationship
Will takes Angie into custody for tampering with evidence and making false statements in the Lenny Broussard case. Co-showrunner Daniel Thomsen described the conflict as a test of Will’s principles: “Throughout the series, we’ve really put an emphasis on Will’s ethical guidelines — they’re like his North Star — and this is the most gut-wrenching situation he could find himself in.” Thomsen and Heldens discussed the finale with TVLine.

8. Angie’s next career move was left open
At the end of Season 2, the showrunners said they were still discussing whether Angie might return to police work, move to the GBI, or take another path. Erika Christensen also described Angie’s career and sobriety as unsettled heading into the new season. The available official Season 3 summaries establish that Angie is dealing with trauma, but do not settle her precise career status.
9. Faith has committed to Luke
Faith’s relationship with Luke is moving forward at the Season 2 close. Thomsen said the relationship helps Faith recognize that she can be a romantic partner. Later Season 3 episode descriptions refer to Faith and Elijah’s relationship deepening, so the romance remains a continuing thread.

10. Season 3 broadens the ensemble’s problems
ABC Press’s Season 3 episode descriptions point to several major threads. They signal the direction of the season, not the outcome of every storyline.
- Angie: She spirals after trauma.
- Ormewood: He grapples with a diagnosis.
- Will: He faces family dynamics.
- The GBI: A shooting leads to an internal investigation.
- Atlanta: The season finale description involves a biological attack.
Do you need to watch the first two seasons?
The central relationship and cover-up context entering Season 3 are serialized: the Crystal reveal, Lenny’s death, and Will’s arrest of Angie all depend on the Season 2 finale. The available episode descriptions do not establish that every Season 3 case requires watching both earlier seasons, but viewers who want the full emotional and plot context should at least know those closing events.
