There is no confirmed release date, cast, story synopsis or trailer for the next Doctor Who television installment. The latest official update, published by the BBC on June 10, 2026, says the programme will go to competitive tender that year. The announcement does not identify a tender winner or give a schedule. “Season 15” is not confirmed as the next installment’s official numbering: the BBC called the 2025 series Season Two, and its 2026 update did not name the next series.
What has the BBC confirmed about the next Doctor Who series?
In its June 10, 2026 update on the future of Doctor Who, the BBC said the programme would go to competitive tender that year. The announcement said details would follow “in due course.” It describes a process for the programme’s future, not a confirmed production start, transmission date or new creative team.
The BBC also said it remains committed to Doctor Who and that the tender is intended to support the programme’s long-term future. The update does not announce who will make the next television installment.
Is the 2026 Doctor Who Christmas special still happening?
No. The BBC’s October 28, 2025 announcement had said the show would return at Christmas 2026 with a special written by Russell T Davies. The BBC’s June 2026 update later said it, Davies and production company Bad Wolf had collectively decided not to proceed with that episode. The June announcement is the current position; the Christmas special should not be treated as part of the confirmed schedule.

The earlier announcement also said Disney+ would not partner on the next season. The BBC’s later update says BBC Studios will continue to lead global distribution, licensing, consumer products, and digital and immersive experiences on the BBC’s behalf. It does not name a replacement international streaming partner.
Release date: when could the next series arrive?
No release date or transmission window for the next television installment appears in the latest official update. The announced competitive tender is not a timetable, so there is not enough official information to give a year or season for its premiere.

Cast: who will play the Doctor?
No cast for the next installment has been announced in the official sources located. The BBC’s 2025 Season Two cast announcement named Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. Those are details about the previous installment, not confirmation that any of them will return.
Story: what will the next Doctor Who be about?
No official synopsis, plot details or story format for the next television installment have been announced in the latest update. Until the BBC or the eventual production team publishes details, specific story claims are unconfirmed.

Not in the official material currently available here. The BBC referred to the 2025 series as Season Two, while its June 2026 announcement did not give the next installment a season number or formal title. “Season 15” may be used as a search phrase, but it is not verified as the BBC’s name for the upcoming television installment.
