That line described how Tia felt at that moment; on its own, it did not establish that the sisters were estranged or had fallen out.
How did Tia clarify the comment?
The next day, Tia told Us Weekly that she meant physical distance and the way separate families, changing roles and responsibilities had affected their availability. She affirmed their affection: “I love my sister very much. She loves me very much.” She also described their connection as beautiful.

ABC News’ report noted that Tamera had previously said she learned about the docuseries and respected Tia’s wish to tell her own story. That account does not, by itself, show that the sisters were in conflict.
What did Tia say about their relationship later?
In a December 17, 2025, Us Weekly report, Tia said the twins had made a pact to reach out to each other once a week on Sundays. She also pushed back on the public interpretation of her earlier words: “Everybody thought that there was this huge rift or distance, and that was not the case.”

That update gives the clearest available context for the “still close” remark: Tia had described feeling less connected in practical, day-to-day terms, then explained that she was not announcing a huge rift.
