The film has since been released and Marvel’s current film page uses the name The New Avengers (Thunderbolts*).
When the Thunderbolts* Super Bowl trailer was released
Marvel Studios released a new Thunderbolts* trailer and poster during the Big Game on February 9, 2025. Disney’s UK press release was dated February 10, the following local calendar day, and identified May 2, 2025, as the film’s U.S. theatrical release date. Read Disney’s announcement.
That release date has passed. Marvel’s current film page lists the movie as The New Avengers (2025), while retaining the Thunderbolts* identity in its imagery and page context. The page records the May 2, 2025, U.S. theatrical date. See Marvel’s film page.
Who is Sentry in the trailer?
Bob, played by Lewis Pullman, is Sentry. In a post-release interview, Disney described Bob as depressed and down on his luck, and said he volunteered for a secret super-soldier experiment. That fuller character background is context from the interview, not something every shot in the Big Game trailer explains. Disney’s Lewis Pullman interview.
#1 Best Overall
- After being ensnared in a death trap, an unconventional team of antiheroes assembles and embarks on a dangerous mission. Forced to confront the darkest corners of their pasts, will the group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and prevail?
Is the shadow figure the Void?
Yes. Disney describes the Void as Bob’s dark side. The trailer’s shadow imagery points to that identity, but it should not be treated as a complete explanation of the Void’s story or powers.
Industrial Light & Magic’s production account describes a deliberately shadow-focused visual-effects design. Work on “shadow development” began in May 2023, combining 2D compositing and CG assets so details could remain legible within an otherwise all-encompassing shadow figure. ILM also describes a sequence in which Sentry uses his powers to push Red Guardian through a window; that production note does not establish further plot mechanics. Marvel Japan’s official page lists Blu-ray, DVD, and digital distribution for Thunderbolts*. That confirms a physical-media route, but it does not establish which editions a particular retailer currently has, what extras they include, or whether a disc will play in a given region.
