It was an editorial roundup—not a poll or a measured ranking of what audiences wanted most. Its dates and service listings reflect what was announced at the time, so treat them as a historical preview rather than a current watch guide.
How TIME chose its fall 2024 slate
Lucy Ford’s TIME roundup, published August 29, 2024, grouped its 34 selections into new series, returning shows and spin-offs, and noted some shows approaching their final seasons. The number 34 is TIME’s count of its selections; the article does not report a public poll, audience survey or scoring method.
The lineup ranged from mystery and psychological thriller to comedy, reality television and franchise drama. The release dates below are those printed in TIME’s preview, not confirmation of present-day availability. Streaming catalogs and distribution rights can vary by country and change over time.

Spin-offs and franchise expansions
TIME grouped three of its selections as spin-offs:
- American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez — a dramatized entry in the American Story anthology franchise, focused on the former NFL player.
- Agatha All Along — a Marvel spin-off centered on Agatha Harkness, the witch introduced in WandaVision.
- The Penguin — an HBO crime drama expanding the world of The Batman around Oswald Cobblepot.
These shows draw on existing franchises, but they differ in how directly they continue a prior story: a spin-off can focus on a familiar character or setting without functioning as a straightforward new season.

TIME’s roundup was not the only source of fall dates. Network announcements added broadcast titles and scheduling details. ABC said its original programming would stream the next day on Hulu; it also said Dancing with the Stars would simulcast live on Disney+ (ABC/Disney Press, July 10, 2024).
FOX announced Universal Basic Guys for September 8, a special premiere of Rescue: HI-Surf on September 22 and Murder in a Small Town for September 24. FOX Television Network President Michael Thorn described the lineup as “a terrific collection of originals” and said the network was “bullish about the future”; those remarks were promotional comments accompanying the schedule, not independent evidence of audience anticipation (FOX Corporation).
