WWE confirmed that wrestler Luna Vachon died in August 2010, but its announcement did not state a cause. In October, Wrestling Inc. reported that Florida’s District Six Medical Examiner’s office had found her death to be an accidental overdose involving painkillers and anti-anxiety medication; its account identified oxycodone and a benzodiazepine through reporting by TMZ. That is a later, secondhand account—not a medical examiner document reviewed here.
What was reported about Luna Vachon’s death?
WWE’s August 2010 notice confirmed the death of Gertrude “Luna” Vachon and noted that she had worked for the company at various times from 1993 to 2000. It did not give a cause of death. WWE’s announcement therefore confirms her passing, not the medical explanation later reported.
In October 2010, Wrestling Inc. reported that Florida’s District Six Medical Examiner’s office had determined the death was an accidental overdose involving painkillers and anti-anxiety medication. The story attributed the more specific identification of oxycodone and a benzodiazepine to TMZ.
The distinction matters: the account is secondary reporting about a finding attributed to the medical examiner’s office. The underlying examiner document is not available in the cited material. It is not accurate to say WWE announced the cause, or to present the reported substances as details personally verified from a death certificate or toxicology report.

Who was Luna Vachon in WWE?
Vachon came from a prominent wrestling family. WWE’s Legacy biography identifies her as the daughter of Paul “Butcher” Vachon and the niece of Maurice “Mad Dog” Vachon and wrestler Vivian Vachon. She trained under Vivian and The Fabulous Moolah in the mid-1980s and made her professional debut in 1986.
She first joined WWE in 1993 as Shawn Michaels’ manager, then became associated with Bam Bam Bigelow. The pair defeated Doink and Dink at WrestleMania X. Later, she worked alongside Goldust and feuded with Sable; Vachon and Goldust lost a mixed tag match at WrestleMania XIV. WWE says she left the company for good in early 2000 and was semi-retired afterward.
