What ABC announced
Sony Pictures Television reported that ABC had announced the series would conclude after seven seasons. The network’s announcement was about the show’s planned ending, not a claim that it had already finished airing. Sony also notes that The Good Doctor is based on a South Korean series of the same name.

Sony Pictures Television’s January 2024 announcement described the series as a “once in a lifetime opportunity” and said, “it’s time to say goodbye.” Executive producers David Shore, Liz Friedman, and Erin Gunn also said they were proud of the work and the message they had been part of.
Why is The Good Doctor ending after seven seasons?
The announcement coverage does not establish ABC’s business or creative rationale. The producers’ statement focused on bringing the series to a conclusion for its audience and team; it did not say the show was ending because of ratings, costs, or another specific factor. It would be speculation to present any of those as the confirmed reason.

The decision gave the producers an opportunity to plan a series conclusion rather than leave the show’s endpoint unannounced. The statements emphasize that aim, but they do not confirm what ultimately happens in the finale.
