For the best mix of comedy and broad appeal, start with The Longest Yard; for Austin in a starring action role, try Damage. This subjective ranking weighs his prominence, each film’s entertainment value, his screen presence, and how well the movie serves action, comedy, or ensemble fans—not Rotten Tomatoes scores alone. It covers narrative feature-film acting roles, not TV, documentaries featuring Austin as himself, or archive footage.
How this ranking works
Austin’s credits range from supporting roles in star-packed productions to lead parts in action films. Those are different propositions: a familiar ensemble comedy can be more enjoyable overall even when Austin is not its central character, while a starring vehicle gives him more room to carry a film. The order below favors a combination of movie quality, entertainment, and the distinctiveness of Austin’s role.
Rotten Tomatoes figures are a reception snapshot accessed October 8, 2026, not a permanent measure of quality. Tomatometer percentages reflect counted critic reviews; Popcornmeter percentages reflect audience ratings. They are useful context, not the ranking formula.
Stone Cold Steve Austin’s movies, ranked
-
The Package (2013)
Austin’s later action credits include this crime-action feature. It sits at the bottom of this ranking because the available evidence gives less basis for a strong recommendation than the more distinctive comedy, ensemble spectacle, or Austin-centered entries above it. Viewers looking specifically for Austin’s early career can treat it as a completionist pick.

-
Finders Keepers (2014)
This is another later feature-film credit, but it has less clearly established appeal here than Austin’s better-known action and comedy appearances. It is best approached as a deep cut for viewers working through his filmography rather than the first film to choose.
-
Recoil (2011)
Austin’s filmography includes several action-led titles from this period, and Recoil is one of the less prominent options in this list. It may suit viewers who want another entry in his action run, though the available reception evidence does not support placing it above the stronger picks.
-
Tactical Force (2011)
This action title belongs among the secondary choices for Austin fans. The case for watching it is chiefly its place in his run of action roles, rather than a standout reception record or a broad comedy-and-ensemble appeal.
-
Maximum Conviction (2012)
Another action-oriented credit, Maximum Conviction is a reasonable option for viewers seeking Austin in a genre role. It ranks below the more memorable films in the list because those offer a clearer hook, whether a stronger ensemble, a more central Austin performance, or an unusual premise.

WWE: Nature Boy Ric Flair - The Definitive Collection (3-Disc)(DVD)- Factory sealed DVD
-
The Stranger (2010)
The Stranger is among Austin’s action-leaning features, but it is not as compelling a starting point as the higher-ranked choices. It makes more sense for viewers who already enjoy his screen presence and want to fill in the less celebrated corners of his filmography.
-
Hunt to Kill (2010)
This is another straightforward option for viewers primarily after an Austin action role. It sits in the middle-lower tier because the material available for comparison does not establish the same broad entertainment case as The Longest Yard or the event-film appeal of The Expendables.
Rank #4
-
The Condemned (2007)
Austin stars as Jack Conrad, a death-row inmate taken to a remote island where prisoners must fight to the death for freedom in a televised internet spectacle. It gives him a much larger role than his first film, but its grim, repetitive action makes it a difficult recommendation for many viewers. Rotten Tomatoes’ critics’ consensus calls it “a morally ambiguous, exceedingly violent and mostly forgettable action film.” In the October 8, 2026 snapshot, it had a 16% Tomatometer from 99 critic reviews and a 58% Popcornmeter from more than 50,000 ratings. Critic Tim Grierson described it in Screen International as “An action film about a hyper-violent reality contest that quickly devolves into a monotonous series of hand-to-hand combat scenes.”
-
Grown Ups 2 (2013)
Austin’s appearance in this broad comedy offers a change of pace from his action work. It ranks above the lesser-known action entries for viewers who want to see him outside a conventional action setup, though it is an ensemble appearance rather than a showcase built around him.

Damage (2009)
Austin plays ex-con John Brickner, who reluctantly enters underground fights to raise money for a girl’s operation. The premise gives him a more substantial dramatic and physical role than his ensemble turns, making this the best choice here for viewers specifically seeking an Austin-led action film. Rotten Tomatoes showed a 45% Popcornmeter from more than 1,000 ratings in the October 8, 2026 snapshot; its page counted only one critic review, too small a sample to suggest a meaningful critical consensus.
-
The Expendables (2010)
Austin plays Paine in Sylvester Stallone’s large mercenary ensemble. His role is supporting, but the film’s all-star action setup gives it more spectacle and group chemistry than most of his solo vehicles. In the October 8, 2026 Rotten Tomatoes snapshot, it had a 41% Tomatometer from 207 critic reviews and a 64% Popcornmeter from more than 250,000 ratings. The audience score was stronger than the critic score, a useful sign that its old-school action may appeal more to genre fans than to critics.
-
The Longest Yard (2005)
Austin’s first movie role, according to WWE, was Heavy Chevy in this sports comedy. It is not an Austin-led film, but its ensemble setting and comedy give it the broadest entry point in his filmography. That combination makes it the strongest overall pick for viewers who want an entertaining movie rather than a film built solely around his action-star persona.
Where to start
- For comedy and a large ensemble: The Longest Yard.
- For Austin in a central action role: Damage.
- For big-cast, old-school action: The Expendables.
- For a high-concept, violent starring vehicle: The Condemned, with the caveat that its action drew sharp criticism.
What counts as an Austin movie?
Rotten Tomatoes’ Steve Austin profile lists narrative features as well as appearances that are not conventional acting roles. This ranking focuses on feature-film performances. It does not count his television work, documentaries in which he appears as himself, or archive footage as separate movie roles. WWE identifies The Longest Yard as his first movie and notes that The Condemned gave him a much larger role.
