Taylor Swift did set a specific Beatles chart record: in 2021, three of her albums reached No. 1 on the UK albums chart within 259 days, faster than The Beatles’ three No. 1 albums in a 364-day span. But the claim that she also tied The Beatles multiple times is not supported by the sourced figures here. In 2024, Swift had 14 No. 1 albums on the U.S. Billboard 200, while The Beatles had 19. No verifiable original interview substantiates the claim that Swift was “surprisingly humble” about the comparison.
Which Beatles chart record did Taylor Swift break?
The clearest documented instance is a record for the speed at which an artist accumulated three UK No. 1 albums. The Independent reported in April 2021 that Swift’s Folklore, Evermore and Fearless (Taylor’s Version) reached the top of the UK albums chart three times within 259 days. The Beatles’ previous benchmark was three UK No. 1 albums—Help!, Rubber Soul and Revolver—within 364 days.
That comparison is about the time between three chart-topping albums in the UK, not the total number of No. 1 albums in either act’s career. The Independent’s account is here.
Did Swift tie The Beatles on the Billboard 200?
No. The Associated Press reported in April 2024 that The Tortured Poets Department became Swift’s 14th No. 1 album on the U.S. Billboard 200. The same report put The Beatles at 19 No. 1 albums on that chart. Those figures show Swift was five albums short of the Beatles’ total at that point; they do not show a tie. - 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
These are separate records on separate measures: Swift surpassed The Beatles’ UK pace for three No. 1 albums, while The Beatles still led the reported U.S. Billboard 200 count. A record can be broken without the artists being equal on every other chart statistic.

Luminate also reported 891.34 million U.S. album streams for the album in its first week. AP described that figure as an album streaming-week record at the time of its April 2024 report. The album had 31 tracks, a detail relevant to interpreting the scale of its streaming total. These are first-week U.S. figures, not recurring weekly totals or a direct measure of lifetime sales.
What does “topped The Beatles” mean—and what does it not mean?
Chart comparisons are meaningful only when the metric, chart and market match. The 259-day comparison concerns three UK album-chart No. 1s. The 14-versus-19 comparison concerns career totals on the U.S. Billboard 200. Neither is a Hot 100 singles record, and neither establishes that Swift tied The Beatles across charts.

The eras also differ. As Sky News noted in its 2024 comparison, music consumption has changed, including the roles of streaming, social media and affordability. Chart rules and the ways people access music affect how records are achieved, so raw totals across generations cannot by themselves settle a ranking of artistic or commercial stature. Sky News’s discussion is here.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Was Taylor Swift “surprisingly humble” about the comparison?
The available reporting does not verify an original interview, transcript or recording in which Swift reacts to topping or tying The Beatles. Without that primary evidence, it would be misleading to attribute a humble response to her or to present the phrase as a verified description of her reaction. The documented chart facts stand on their own; the reaction claim remains unsubstantiated by the cited sources.
