Omar Zaheer pursued veterinary medicine so he could work with birds, reptiles and other exotic animals. In 2022, he was reported to be working at 404 Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital in Newmarket, Ontario; that report is historical and does not establish his current employer or role.
What kind of veterinarian is Omar Zaheer?
Zaheer’s stated aim was to become an exotic-animal specialist. An excerpt from his February 9, 2022 CBS Survivor bio, reproduced by True Dork Times, says he was proud of deciding “to become an exotic animal specialist from undergrad.”
In a February 2022 Parade interview, Zaheer said he chose veterinary school despite being afraid of dogs because he wanted to practice on “birds, reptiles, and weird things like that.” He also said the admission rate for the specialty he intended to pursue was 4 to 5 percent. That number is his estimate as reported in the interview, not a verified general rate for veterinary specialties or residency programs.
Episode descriptions from Vet Sessions and Rob Has a Podcast also describe his path in veterinary medicine and his avian and exotic-animal work. Those descriptions support the broad career picture, but do not establish a specific additional credential or current job.

Where did he work?
A March 8, 2022 report by NewmarketToday said Zaheer had been working for about two months at 404 Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital on Harry Walker Parkway in Newmarket, Ontario. The report described his university studies as focused on avian and exotic-animal veterinary work. This is a snapshot from 2022; the available reporting does not confirm where he works now.
What did his veterinary work involve?
In a May 19, 2022 post-elimination interview with Parade, Zaheer described a varied caseload: “I may see eight to ten patients a day that are all different species that all have different problems that all are on different medications with all different owners that all need something different from me.” This is his account of a typical day, not an independently audited patient count.
He connected the work to the interpersonal side of Survivor: veterinary practice brought him into contact with people in varied and sometimes emotionally difficult circumstances. That is Zaheer’s explanation of how the job shaped his approach to the game, not evidence that veterinary work predicts success on the show.

The interviews and episode descriptions support describing Zaheer as a veterinarian with an avian and exotic-animal focus.
