Coverage agreed on the main moments but described the cord variously as a curtain cord, blind cord, or drawstring.
What Prince Louis did during the 2024 parade
Vogue, Sky News, and The Independent each reported that Louis moved or danced to the Scots Guards’ performance of “Highland Laddie.” Their accounts also noted a yawn while he watched the ceremony from a window. The reports describe what was visible; they do not establish what he was thinking or feeling.
The cord detail is less exact. Vogue called it a curtain cord, while Sky News said it appeared to be a blind cord and The Independent described a blind drawstring. It is safest to say Louis played with a blind or curtain cord, as contemporary reports described it, rather than treat the fixture’s precise identity as confirmed.
What Trooping the Colour marks
Trooping the Colour is the annual parade marking the British Sovereign’s official birthday. The Royal Family’s account of the June 15 event says the Princess of Wales travelled in the Glass Coach with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

In the ceremony, the procession travels from Buckingham Palace toward Horse Guards Parade, where the Sovereign inspects troops and a regiment’s Colour—a flag—is carried through the ranks. The 2024 account says the Irish Guards’ Number 9 Company had the honour of trooping its Colour. The parade concludes with the Royal Family watching an RAF fly-past from Buckingham Palace’s balcony.
How large is the ceremony?
The Royal Family’s general explainer says Trooping the Colour has marked the Sovereign’s official birthday for more than 260 years. It describes the ceremony’s typical scale as over 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians; those are explanatory figures, not a verified count for the 2024 parade. For that year’s event, the Royal Family reported more than a thousand Household Division soldiers and hundreds of military working horses.

What the reports establish—and what they do not
The three contemporaneous accounts converge on Louis dancing or moving to the music and yawning, and all describe his interaction with a cord at the window. They differ in the cord’s name. The images and descriptions do not establish whether he was bored, amused, or acting with any particular intention, so those interpretations should not be presented as fact.
