The series is Lynley, a four-episode adaptation of Elizabeth George’s Inspector Lynley crime novels. It has a title page on Prime Video, but that listing offers access through BritBox; it should not be mistaken for a show included with a standard Prime membership. Availability and subscription terms vary by location and date.

What is Lynley about?

BritBox describes the leads as “two mismatched detectives from different worlds.” Tommy Lynley is an aristocratic detective and an outsider in the police force; Barbara Havers is a working-class sergeant with a maverick attitude. Their contrasting backgrounds and approaches give the crime drama its central dynamic, while both are committed to justice. BritBox’s series page introduces the pairing and the adaptation.

The series draws on Elizabeth George’s Inspector Lynley novels. George, who is also an executive producer, said she was “thrilled to see Thomas Lynley and Barbara Havers come to television again,” citing the participation of the BBC and BritBox and production expertise from Playground. BritBox’s production announcement includes her statement and details about the adaptation.

Why it suits a binge

BritBox announced Lynley as a four-episode crime drama. For its original U.S. and Canada launch, BritBox set a September 4, 2025 premiere, with episodes released weekly. That release plan was weekly rather than a full-season drop; the series’ compact four-episode first season is the practical reason it may appeal to viewers looking for a short crime-drama commitment. “Most bingeable” is headline framing, not a verified ranking or audience statistic.

The Prime Video listing observed for the series says all episodes are streaming and lists season one as four episodes. Episode runtimes can differ by local listing, so check the title page in your territory for current details.

How to watch it on Prime Video

A Prime Video title page exists, but the observed listing identifies BritBox as the studio and presents a BritBox trial offer. The relevant route is BritBox through Prime Video, where available—not ordinary Prime membership by default. The listing reviewed was a Spanish-language locale with a U.S. route parameter, so it does not establish what a viewer in every country will see.

  1. Search for Lynley in Prime Video and open the title page for your location.
  2. Check whether the page offers BritBox as a channel or trial, and review the current price, trial terms, and renewal conditions before subscribing.
  3. Confirm that season one is available in your territory and that the displayed episode count and access terms match what you intend to watch.

Prime Video’s title listing is the source for the observed channel offer; its terms and catalog availability may change.

What’s next for the series?

In March 2026, BritBox announced that season two was in production. The announcement did not give a release date, so there is no confirmed premiere date to report from that source. BritBox’s season-two announcement provides the production update.

Want to read the source novels?

Look for Elizabeth George’s Inspector Lynley novels, the literary source for the adaptation. The books are a way to explore the characters beyond the series; they are not a streaming method, and the cited announcements do not establish which editions are currently available.
