The new Nintendo Switch 2 spot, titled “Now You’re Playing Together,” echoes the earlier ad’s “playing with power” language while shifting the focus to playing together through GameChat.
What is the Paul Rudd Switch 2 ad?
It is a Nintendo Switch 2 TV spot featuring Rudd and Mario Kart World. iSpot lists the commercial as “Now You’re Playing Together,” gives April 29, 2025 as its publication date, and notes that Mario Kart World launched alongside Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. iSpot’s listing identifies GameChat as part of the campaign’s context.
The callback was reported before the console’s launch, but the dates attached to the coverage are not the same as a verified first-airing date: Nintendo Life published its article on April 20, 2025; TODAY’s video description appeared April 21; and iSpot lists the spot on April 29.
How does the new commercial refer to the 1991 SNES ad?
Rudd appeared in a Super Nintendo commercial in 1991. The 2025 spot brings him back and evokes the older ad’s recognizable presentation and power-themed slogan, “Now you’re playing with power.” Nintendo Life reports that the new commercial adapts that idea into “Now You’re Playing Together.” Nintendo Life’s coverage reproduces Rudd’s line in the spot: “Y’know guys, it’s nice playing with power, but this is better because now we’re playing together… Super together!” That is commercial dialogue, not a separately verified interview quotation.

What changed between the two ads?
| Aspect | 1991 commercial | 2025 commercial |
|---|---|---|
| Console generation | Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) | Nintendo Switch 2 |
| Rudd’s role | Appeared in a Super Nintendo commercial | Returns in a Switch 2 campaign spot |
| Message | “Now you’re playing with power” | “Now You’re Playing Together” |
| Emphasis | Power-themed language | Playing together, with GameChat highlighted in coverage |
The contrast is the point of the callback: the older slogan celebrates the console’s power, while the newer wording foregrounds shared play. The available coverage supports that comparison, but does not establish a formal statement from Nintendo about the campaign’s creative intent. TODAY’s video description also characterizes the spot as Rudd rebooting his 1990s Super Nintendo commercial for Switch 2.
