The floor-length slip-style dress paired a plunging neckline and open back with sparkling trim around its torso cutouts, giving the look a mix of red-carpet glamour and Y2K edge.

The ceremony took place at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. It was Cyrus’s first Golden Globes appearance since 2009, according to ELLE’s January 5, 2025 coverage.
The official Golden Globes arrival credits list Celine for Cyrus’s dress, shoes and sunglasses, and De Beers for her jewelry. They also credit Bradley Kenneth as stylist, Bob Recine for hair and James Kalliardos for makeup. The dress itself was more specific than a simple little black dress: it was a long, slip-style gown with a deep neckline, waist and torso cutouts, and a low, open back. The cutouts shaped the gown’s silhouette, while sparkling trim made them a focal point. Sunglasses, jewelry and beauty
Black, small rectangular sunglasses gave the evening look an unexpected daytime-accessory note. The official Golden Globes credits name Celine for the pair, although E!’s January 6 report identifies them as Chanel. The brand is therefore disputed in contemporary coverage; the frame shape and dark color are the clearer visual details.
Diamond jewelry, a spiky updo with blunt bangs, smoky shadow and winged eyeliner carried the look toward glam rock. The contrast was deliberate in effect: the gown exposed and embellished the torso, while the sunglasses and sharply styled hair made the overall appearance feel tougher and less conventionally formal. For a similar effect, compare dresses by their shape and construction rather than searching only for a “black dress.” The defining features of Cyrus’s look were a long slip silhouette, a deep neckline, placed waist or torso cutouts, an open back and embellishment bordering the openings. A shorter slip dress may share the minimal silhouette but will not reproduce the floor-length red-carpet proportion.
