In September 2025, reports described her wearing five rings, including Princess Diana’s sapphire engagement ring; other appearances have shown different combinations. The eye-catching shift is a styling choice, not evidence that she has permanently stopped wearing her engagement ring.
What rings were in Kate Middleton’s five-ring stack?
At the September 2025 funeral of the Duchess of Kent, ELLE and Town & Country described a five-ring combination. The reports identify these pieces:
- Princess Diana’s sapphire-and-diamond engagement ring, described in coverage as a 12-carat sapphire ring.
- Kate’s Welsh gold wedding band.
- A diamond eternity band believed to have been given after the birth of Prince George.
- A sapphire-and-diamond eternity band, introduced in 2024 according to ELLE and Vogue.
- An additional platinum band that Town & Country described as unidentified.
The sapphire-and-diamond eternity band is sometimes identified as Cartier’s Étincelle de Cartier, but that identification is reported as a belief, not a confirmed fact. Vogue’s 2025 description of that Cartier model specifies platinum, 19 brilliant-cut diamonds and 19 brilliant-cut sapphires. Vogue listed it at $6,300 at the time; that dated model price neither authenticates Kate’s ring nor establishes its current price. Vogue
Did Kate Middleton stop wearing her engagement ring?
No permanent retirement is established by the reports. The rings she wears together have varied by appearance. A royal-style blog noted that in October 2024 she wore two additional eternity bands without the large sapphire engagement ring. Vogue reported that at Wimbledon in July 2025 she wore both eternity bands with her engagement ring and wedding band. In September 2025, the Duchess of Kent funeral coverage described the five-ring combination. A September 2026 entertainment report also says she wore the sapphire engagement ring with other rings. Those snapshots show different styling combinations, not a confirmed change in the ring’s ownership or a decision to stop wearing it.
Is Kate Middleton’s ring stack worth $527,312?
The exact $527,312 total is not substantiated by the available reporting. ELLE quoted Angie Kennedy, Zales vice president of merchandising, estimating that a comparable version of Diana’s sapphire engagement ring would be worth “around $500,000 today.” That is an expert estimate for a comparable piece, not an appraisal of Kate’s heirloom. Kennedy separately described the remaining stack as likely worth “tens of thousands,” depending on the makers and gemstones. Neither estimate verifies the exact headline total. ELLE

The figures also refer to different things: one is a rough estimate for a comparable engagement ring, another a broad estimate for the rest of the stack, and the $6,300 figure is Vogue’s 2025 price for a Cartier model that Kate’s band is only believed to resemble. They should not be added together and presented as an authenticated valuation.

- Stones: diamond-only, sapphire-and-diamond, or another gemstone combination.
- Metal and width: match or deliberately contrast the existing ring’s metal and profile.
- Fit: check whether the bands sit comfortably together and whether their shapes leave gaps.
- Wear: close-fitting rings can rub against each other. Hera Fine Jewelry founder and CEO Lauren Boc told ELLE that hard diamonds may wear against softer gold; she suggested a spacer band or soldering rings together as general options. A jeweler can advise what suits your particular rings.
- Cost and provenance: compare actual materials, construction and seller information rather than assuming a celebrity ring’s design or value.
Jewelry designer Eliza Walter told Vogue that clients increasingly wear eternity rings stacked with engagement and wedding bands, or wear one alone for a more relaxed look. That versatility helps explain why the same ring can appear in different combinations without signaling a permanent change.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is confirmed—and what remains uncertain
The reporting documents changing combinations, including a five-ring look in September 2025. It does not establish the identity or provenance of every band, confirm that the newer sapphire-and-diamond ring is Cartier, or provide an appraisal of Kate’s jewelry. The precise $527,312 figure should therefore be treated as an unverified headline estimate, not a confirmed value.
