Alwyn discussed the split in an interview for The Sunday Times Style, in its June 16, 2024 issue—more than a year after news of the breakup was reported in April 2023. That is a hard thing to navigate. Why did he keep the private details private?
Alwyn said privacy had been a mutual decision during the relationship and that he saw no reason to change that after the split: “As everyone knows, we together—both of us, mutually—decided to keep the more private details of our relationship private. It was never something to commodify, and I see no reason to change that now.” The Standard; ELLE

What his interview did—and did not—address
Alwyn’s remarks did not reveal the private cause or exact date of the breakup, and they do not settle interpretations of Swift’s lyrics. Coverage connected the interview to questions about The Tortured Poets Department; Alwyn was promoting the film Kinds of Kindness.
