Joe Rogan discussed Renee Nicole Good’s fatal shooting with Senator Rand Paul on a January 2026 episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. He called it a “terrible tragedy,” said it “just seemed all kinds of wrong” to him, and offered his own reading of the video: that Good appeared to be turning her car away from the agent. Those are Rogan’s views, not an investigative finding. Axios reported his remarks on January 14, 2026.
What did Joe Rogan say about Renee Good?
In his conversation with Senator Rand Paul, Rogan described the shooting as a “terrible tragedy” and said, “It just seemed all kinds of wrong to me.” He also questioned the direction Good’s car was moving, saying that, from what he saw, she appeared to be turning away from the agent. These remarks were reported by Axios; the wording here is attributed to that report rather than to an independently reviewed episode transcript.
Rogan also criticized immigration enforcement in the same conversation, asking, “Are we really going to be the Gestapo? Where’s your papers? Is that what we’ve come to?” Axios placed his comments in the context of his earlier criticism of immigration enforcement. The report does not establish that this was his first public comment on Good’s death, so describing it as him “breaking his silence” would overstate what is known.
What is known about the shooting?
Renee Nicole Good, 37, was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. The circumstances and the question of whether the agent acted in self-defense have been described differently by federal and local officials. Rogan’s interpretation of the video does not resolve the investigation or the legal questions.

ABC News’s January 9 video timeline reported that its analysis of verified video showed Good turning the steering wheel to the right, away from the agent, just over one second before the first of three shots. ABC’s metadata analysis measured 399 milliseconds between the first two shots. That interval is ABC’s reported analysis, not a separate finding about the agent’s intent.
Why accounts of the investigation differ
MPR News reported on January 8 that the FBI was conducting the federal investigation and that Minnesota’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) said it no longer had access to evidence, case materials, or investigative interviews. Federal officials characterized the shooting as self-defense; state officials objected to their lack of access. Those are positions attributed to the agencies and officials, not a final determination of what happened.

On January 10, the Office of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz issued a statement mourning Good and criticizing federal immigration operations. The office also said the Minnesota National Guard was staged and ready to support local and state law enforcement if needed. The statement reflects the governor’s position; it is not an independent finding about the shooting.

- Rogan’s view: He said the shooting seemed wrong to him and interpreted the car’s movement as turning away from the agent, as reported by Axios.
- Video analysis: ABC News described what its review of verified video and metadata showed, including the steering-wheel movement and timing of shots.
- Official positions: Federal officials said the agent acted in self-defense, while Minnesota officials raised concerns about investigative access and disputed aspects of the federal account.
These are different kinds of evidence and statements. A commentator’s reading of a video, a news organization’s analysis, and government accounts should not be treated as interchangeable or as a substitute for a completed investigation.
